Alice Groen Airola 1941- 2024

Angels Camp, CA...Alice Groen Airola, February 12, 1941- March 17, 2024. Alice Groen Airola was born in Modesto, California 1941. Her life was defined by a love for her family and a compassion to serve her community.  After a life of service, impacting far beyond her nursing profession, she passed on to heaven on March 17, 2024 at age 83 years.

Alice was raised in Ripon California and her journey in nursing began at San Joaquin General Hospital. She then moved on to Angels Camp and has lived there ever since. Her career spanned several roles, including office nurse, staff nurse in emergency and operating rooms, and charge nurse in various hospital departments. Throughout her career, her commitment to excellence led to becoming certified in coronary care nursing, infection control, and health care quality/risk management/utilization review, setting a standard of professionalism and care for others to follow.

Alice was deeply involved in her community, volunteering her time and talents in various ways, especially for her children. Some of the many ways she served others was helping start Ebbetts Pass Youth Soccer League for kids in Murphys, hosting high school youth groups in our home, teaching 4-H classes, Sunday School and AWANA, and later serving as treasurer for the Stelte Park townhome homeowners association. She was particularly proud of her time while serving on the Calaveras County Grand Jury. Her caring spirit and generosity touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew her.

In her passing, Alice is reunited with her brother Fred Groen and her parents John and Luwina “Lou” Groen.

She is survived by her two sisters, Loretta Hasley and Helene Lapping, her children Nancy Wheeler, Susan Axtell, Todd Airola, eight grandchildren, and two great grandchildren on the way.

Her memorial service was at Vine and Branch Fellowship, 3710 Whittle Rd, Angels Camp, CA 95222 on Friday April 5th, 2024 at 4:00pm.

In lieu of gifts, we would like you to consider Jesus and his claims to be the savior of the world. May her memory and legacy inspire us to live each day with a great sense of purpose and love for others, just as she did. We welcome you to provide your thoughts and memories on the Legacy.com Tribute Wall.

Alice was always dedicated and thorough in whatever position as an R.N. she held at Mark Twain hospital, it was a pleasure to work with her for many years. She will be sorely missed.
