Calaveras Local Fire Protection Initiative Headed to Ballot in November
Posted by: thepinetree on 03/24/2022 05:13 PM
Calaveras County, CA...Calaveras County Clerk Rebecca Turner this week certified that volunteers collected enough voter signatures to place the Calaveras Local Fire Protection Tax Initiative on the November Ballot. That means that the citizen initiative will now go to the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors on April 12 so the board can formally call an election and consolidate it with this year’s general election.
San Andreas, CA...After several public meetings, the CCWD board adopted new district boundaries for its directors during a public hearing held on March 9. CCWD is an independent special district with county-wide jurisdiction that is governed by a five-member board of directors. Each director represents a portion of the County and is elected by the voters in that district. Every ten years, after the federal census is complete, CCWD reevaluates its district boundaries to ensure relatively equal population distribution. CCWD strives to keep communities intact when drawing the boundaries and also takes CCWD service areas and watershed boundaries into account, to the extent possible.
Governor Newsom Proposes $11 Billion Relief Package for Californians Facing Higher Gas Prices

Sacramento, CA...Registered vehicle owners in California will be eligible for at least $400 per vehicle, totaling $9 billion in direct payments to millions of Californians. $2 billion in relief for free public transportation for three months, pausing a portion of the sales tax rate on diesel, and suspending the inflationary adjustment on gas and diesel excise tax. $500 million to support active transportation programs, like walking and biking projects.
Washington, DC...Since launching his unprovoked and unjust war of choice, Russian President Vladimir Putin has unleashed unrelenting violence that has caused death and destruction across Ukraine. We’ve seen numerous credible reports of indiscriminate attacks and attacks deliberately targeting civilians, as well as other atrocities. Russia’s forces have destroyed apartment buildings, schools, hospitals, critical infrastructure, civilian vehicles, shopping centers, and ambulances, leaving thousands of innocent civilians killed or wounded. Many of the sites Russia’s forces have hit have been clearly identifiable as in-use by civilians. This includes the Mariupol maternity hospital, as the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights expressly noted in a March 11 report. It also includes a strike that hit a Mariupol theater, clearly marked with the word “дети” — Russian for “children” — in huge letters visible from the sky. Putin’s forces used these same tactics in Grozny, Chechnya, and Aleppo, Syria, where they intensified their bombardment of cities to break the will of the people. Their attempt to do so in Ukraine has again shocked the world and, as President Zelenskyy has soberly attested, “bathed the people of Ukraine in blood and tears.”
Brussels, Belgium...NATO leaders met today on the one-month anniversary of Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Ukraine to reiterate our strong support for the Ukrainian people, our determination to hold Russia accountable for its brutal war, and our commitment to strengthening the NATO Alliance. We had the privilege of hearing directly from President Zelenskyy, and we will continue to support him and his government with significant, and increasing, amounts of security assistance to fight Russian aggression and uphold their right to self-defense.

Jen Psaki on Idaho Law Restricting Women’s Access to Abortions
Posted by: thepinetree on 03/23/2022 06:03 PM
Washington, DC...We knew that when Texas passed SB8, its extreme law that blatantly violates the constitutional right reaffirmed by Roe v. Wade, it would invite other states to follow. Today, Idaho became the first state to adopt a similar law – a six-week restriction relying on private citizens to enforce the law. This development is devastating for women in Idaho, as it will further impede women’s access to health care, especially those on low incomes and living in rural communities.

Mountain Ranch, CA…In 1950, we started out as a family operation with Erich’s father and mother, August and Freida Sender, in a century-old adobe building. The upstairs was home to the Sender family, and the first floor included groceries, a meat market, a bar, and a small eating place called Opa’s Smokehouse. On Christmas morning in 1968, the old store was destroyed by fire. But in June 1969, Sender’s Market, Inc. was opened. Since that time, there have been many changes, including remodeling, expansion, and the addition of many employees. That’s also when we added the truss plant and purchased Sender’s Market Ace Hardware in Valley Springs. Today, we’re still family owned and still working hard to stock everything from pantry essentials to power tools. Whether you’ve got questions about the perfect cut of meat or the right kind of paint, our helpful, knowledgeable staff has you covered. Click on images below for larger versions.

$7,710,900 of Marijuana Seized in Latest Raids of Illegal Grows
Posted by: thepinetree on 03/22/2022 11:25 AM
San Andreas, CA...Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Marijuana Team March 16 thru March 18th, 2022. On March 16th, 2022, the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Marijuana Enforcement Unit served a search warrant for illegal marijuana cultivation in the 4000 block of French Gulch Road in Murphys, CA. Deputies seized 4,112 growing marijuana plants and 144 pounds of processed marijuana with an estimated value exceeding $5,107,700. This location had previously been a dog boarding facility and had been nearly entirely converted to facilitate indoor marijuana cultivation. In addition, the large amount of juvenile marijuana plants indicated that this site was a nursery that may have been a supplier for other cultivation sites. Numerous electrical hazards were discovered at the site. Calaveras County Code Enforcement Officers responded to the site and red tagged some of the structures. Pacific Gas & Electric disconnected the power from the site due to electrical hazards and violations. Substantial evidence was collected and the investigation is ongoing.
Calaveras County Annual Roadside Weed Spraying 2022

San Andreas, CA...Calaveras Public Works Department wants to inform the public that the annual roadside weed control spraying along county roads is beginning in CSA 1 Rancho Calaveras, on April 4, 2022. Roadside weed spraying is important to prevent weeds from encroaching on the edges of roads, which can obstruct driver’s views, lead to road damage and fuel wildfires. County staff typically sprays a 6’ swath of land immediately next to roads twice annually: near the middle to end of February, and again near the middle of April, depending on weather.
President Biden Before Business Roundtable’s CEO Quarterly Meeting

Washington, DC...Thank you. My name is Joe Biden, and I come from Delaware which has more corporations incorporated than all of the rest of the country combined. (Laughter.) And I know the Business Roundtable because in the days when I first ran for office — (clears throat) — excuse me — in 1972, for the United States Senate, the DuPont company was the eighth-largest corporation in America. As they say in Delaware, they were the good old days. But all kidding aside, thank you for having me. You’re a hell of an organization. I appreciate it.
