Proclamation of Local Emergency in Calaveras County Due to Storms
San Andreas, CA...Beginning on or about February 23, 2023, winter storms related to an atmospheric river system struck Calaveras County, bringing damaging winds, substantial precipitation including significant snowfall at higher elevations, and flooding, and this system continues to impact the County. John K. Osbourn, Director of Emergency Services, proclaimed that a local emergency exists throughout Calaveras County, commencing on or about 1:00PM on March 10, 2023. To aid in the rapid response to storm impacts, California Governor Newsom declared a State of Emergency in many of the counties, including Calaveras. Learn more: https://wp.meipd8T7h-7XY
A Flood Watch is in effect until 10AM Wednesday morning for elevations below 4000 feet. Flooding caused by excessive rainfall and snow melt is possible. Snowpack at higher elevations can absorb rain, but this will increase snow load concerns. A High Wind Warning is also in effect until Tuesday at 11PM, and thunderstorms are possible.
Calaveras County Office of Emergency Services and the City of Angels have prepared for this event and are proactively coordinating resources and materials.
Sandbag locations: Please limit the number of sandbags to 10 per resident and remember to bring your own shovel.

• West Point Volunteer Fire Department, 195 Spink Rd.
• Angels Camp, sand and sandbags are available at 200 Monte Verda (behind the Police Department)
Road Conditions Real-time road conditions in Calaveras County can be found at the CA Highway Patrol webpage at httos://www.chp.ca.gov/traffic. Click the communications centers dropdown menu and select Stockton. It is important to remember that during major storm events if you don't need to drive - please don't. Avoid hazardous road conditions and "Don't Drown - Turn Around". Please be aware of road workers, utility crews, and first responders.
