A Bit of Wisdom from the 1739 Poor Richard's Almanac

Posted by: thepinetree on 05/02/2024 10:58 AM
Philadelphia, PA...Our Favorite Founding Father is Ben Franklin. He didn't just help found our country during the 1776 era.   For two generations before he helped sell concepts of Freedom, Self-Determination & Inalienable rights. From 1733 to 1758 Poor Richards Almanac helped create the unique American identity in a homey, common sense, aspirational way. A few Bits of Wisdom from 1739...

1739
If thou wouldst live long, live well; for Folly and Wickedness shorten Life.
Trust thy self, and another shall not betray thee.
He that pays for Work before it’s done, has but a pennyworth for twopence.
Historians relate, not so much what is done, as what they would have believed.
Thou canst not joke an Enemy into a Friend; but thou may'st a Friend into an Enemy.
He that falls in love with himself, will have no Rivals.
Let thy Child's first Lesson be Obedience, and the second may be what thou wilt.
Blessed is he that expects nothing, for he shall never be disappointed.
Let thy Discontents be Secrets.
A Man of Knowledge like a rich Soil, feeds If not a world of Corn, a world of Weeds.
No Resolution of Repenting hereafter, can be sincere.
Honour thy Father and Mother, i.e. Live so as to be an Honour to them tho' they are dead.
If thou injurest Conscience, it will have its Revenge on thee.
Hear no ill of a Friend, nor speak any of an Enemy.
Pay what you owe, and you’ll know what's your own.
Beware of him that is slow to anger: He is angry for some thing, and will not be pleased for nothing.
Proclaim not all thou knowest, all thou owest, all thou hast, nor all thou canst.
Let our Fathers and Grandfathers be valued for their Goodness, ourselves for our own.
Industry need not wish.
Sin is not hurtful because it is forbidden but it is forbidden because it's hurtful.
Nor is a Duty beneficial because it is commanded, but it is commanded, because it's beneficial.
Great Beauty, great strength, & great Riches, are really & truly of no great Use; a right Heart exceeds all.

President Biden on Recent Events on College Campuses

Posted by: thepinetree on 05/02/2024 10:52 AM
Washington, DC...Good morning. Q Good morning. THE PRESIDENT: Before I head to North Carolina, I wanted to speak a few moments about what’s going on on our college campuses here. We’ve all seen the images. And they put to the test two fundamental American principles. Excuse me. (Coughs.) The first is the right to free speech and for people to peacefully assemble and make their voices heard. The second is the rule of law. Both must be upheld.

Sender’s Market Weekly Ad & Grocery Specials Through May 7th! Shop Local & Save!!

Posted by: thepinetree on 05/01/2024 04:18 PM
Mountain Ranch, CA…In 1950, we started out as a family operation with Erich’s father and mother, August and Freida Sender, in a century-old adobe building. The upstairs was home to the Sender family, and the first floor included groceries, a meat market, a bar, and a small eating place called Opa’s Smokehouse. On Christmas morning in 1968, the old store was destroyed by fire. But in June 1969, Sender’s Market, Inc. was opened. Since that time, there have been many changes, including remodeling, expansion, and the addition of many employees. That’s also when we added the truss plant and purchased Sender’s Market Ace Hardware in Valley Springs. Today, we’re still family owned and still working hard to stock everything from pantry essentials to power tools. Whether you’ve got questions about the perfect cut of meat or the right kind of paint, our helpful, knowledgeable staff has you covered. Click on images below for larger versions

San Andreas, CA...At 8:00 a.m. this morning, May 1st, 2024, burn permits are required for debris burning within CAL FIRE Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit. Ensure you practice safe burning methods and adhere to the terms of the permit including limiting pile size to a maximum of four feet by four feet (four feet in diameter, and four feet high) and clearing down to bare mineral soil 10 feet from the outer edges of burn piles. Outdoor burning may be done ONLY on permissive burn days. Remember, burn day status is determined by air quality and how quickly smoke will disperse. Therefore, many permissible burn days are windy. Never burn when it’s windy, even if it is a permissible burn day. Remain in attendance of your burn project and have tools and water close by to suppress any escape from your burning operation.
