Oakland Man Dies on Hike AT Berkeley Family Camp ~By Sgt Ken Diaz

Tuolumne County, CA...At approximately 1829 hours on Saturday, May 29th, the sheriff's office received a phone call that a man had fallen on a trail near the Berkeley Family Camp area and they could not locate him. Tuolumne County Search and Rescue team along with Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office responded...

60 Year Old William Patrick Braun was found by campers and employees of the Berkeley Family Camp. He was completely submerged in the South Fork of the Tuolumne River.

Braun was staying at the Berkeley Family Camp with family and friends. He went on a hike on the Upper Trail of the Berkley Family Camp near the South Fork of the Tuolumne River. Braun tripped and fell off the side of the trail and down an embankment about 60 feet and then into the River. Braun was found about 150 feet down stream from were he entered the water.

Deputy Crow (SAR coordinator and Coroner) said that Braun had some head trauma and that an autopsy would be conducted on Monday to determine the cause of death. Deputy Crow said that with out the help of the campers in the area and the employees of the Berkeley Family Camp, finding Braun and recovering him would have been much more difficult.

No foul play is suspected.
