Health Care, Public or Private?~by Al Segalla

Copperopolis, CA...I think everyone wants good dependable health care and health insurance for catastrophic events. I know I do. Many would prefer a plan whereby all health care is covered by an affordable monthly payment. Before exploring the use of compulsion in health care, that is, government forcing people to accept its determination of what health care we will have, we should identify exactly what we mean by “Health Care”. Obviously, health care is provided first by family and then by paid nurses, doctors and other experts selling their services in the medical marketplace. This marketplace sets the relative value of all goods and services. ...

Sometimes, government seeks to control the marketplace and when it does, almost always harm is done. The extent of damage seems proportional to the extent of government control.

An easy to understand example could be the fixing of a price which health providers could charge for their work. The results are obvious. When the fixed rate is below market value we will lose providers. The tragic results can destroy quality care, as future doctors and nurses seek another profession or flee to a freer place to work. This seems why many professionals have escaped countries with socialized medicine and have come to America.

Why would anyone favor government control? There is a popular social theory “From each according to their ability, to each according to their need”, which seems to drive the progressive movement and major media. Sometimes, people will give up their rights in favor of getting a benefit paid by others or in seeking security.

An interesting observation is that every despotic regime in history seeks to make the people dependent upon government. Socialism seems mandatory to the enslavement of a population. This was true with the National Socialists (NAZI) in Germany, also, Stalin, Mao, Castro, Pol Pot and on and on.

Is there hope for us? Maybe, our constitution does not permit expansion of federal powers needed to establish the socialist state. For that to happen, our constitution must be abolished or ignored.

So, by insisting that our elected leaders honor their oath of office and follow the constitution, we could preserve our free society for future generations. I deserve to live in a free society. How about you?
