team and excelled in tennis. In addition to his considerable talent on the trumpet, he is also an accomplished pianist and plays in a small jazz ensemble. In college he would like to study international relations, economics and agriculture. His love for his family farm prompted his hopes to obtain a degree in some aspect of agriculture.
To provide balance to his upbringing on the farm his parents took him to several foreign countries. These trips allowed him to see some of the treasures the world has to offer. These trips also showed him that Calaveras County had given him the best possible childhood he could hope for. Calaveras County, despite it's small size, has offered abundant opportunities for him to learn, serve and participate in his community.
The George M. Truemper Scholarship definitely went to the top candidate this year. The award was presented to Mr. Sagewalker on May 26th at the Bret Harte Auditorium by Master Dave Fredrick of Ophir Bear Mountain Lodge #33 of Murphys. The first installment in the amount of $5,000 will be presented to Mr. Sagewalker at a dinner at the lodge on June 25th.
