Pure Pigment Watercolor Experience with artist Ken McBride~by Charity Maness
Copperopolis, CA...Saturday June 12, brought a wonderful artistic adventure to the Copperopolis Town Square. Hosted by Town Hall Arts, artist Ken McBride entranced his audience of artists in the making with his creative take on ‘monoprint.’ To better understand the art of monoprint he quotes, “One process of water media I enjoy is that of making a monoprint by pressing a hard surfaced paper onto randomly arranged pure pigment-colors.” If this sounds confusing and somewhat reminiscent of tie dye techniques, you are on the right track......

Though what seems to be a complete free flowing random color palette of his choosing of pure pigments, it is actually well thought out and coordinated to obtain the most dramatic, emotional, or ethereal background for the creation of his finished product. This is just the beginning. “By addition and subtraction of line and color, I develop a composition, based on what I see before me.”
His paintings speak for themselves. Take a look at the photos to watch the creative process and to see some of his completed works. Ken’s art can be viewed and purchased in Town Hall Arts in Copperopolis Town Square.
