Do you know how some of your money being spent with CUSD? Letter to the Editor ~by Nick Hodgson of Valley Springs
Valley Springs, CA...The average money spent per student per school site is $4,744.80 for Salaries / Benefits. These are the Elementary Schools, Toyon Middle School and Calaveras High School numbers only. (9/9/2010) Did you know? Jenny Lind and Valley Springs Elementary Schools average less then most of the others by ? @ $3,870.17?..
Did you know?
ADA income from the State is $4,945.00 this number is what CUSD has to spend on each child this year 2010/2011. By the way this number is going down, and is down from prior years.
Did you know?
Jenny Lind Elementary receives $1,439.50 less per student then Rail Road Flat Elementary and Valley Springs Elementary receives $1,297.27 less per student then Rail Road Flat Elementary.
So when you hear that the Rail Road Flat School is a ”Blue Ribbon School” it should be with the extra money they get to spend on their students at our children’s expense….
My statements do not mean I want to close any schools, what I am saying is using monies that should be allocated for our children and sending it somewhere else should stop… Each school site must balance its books or plan on closing. Three of the highest cost Elementary school sites are sites that have less then 105 students, Rail Road Flat (88), West Point (102) and Mokelumne Hill with (99). By the way Valley Springs Elementary has 559 students and Jenny Lind has 670 students….
Are you happy with what you have just learned? If not, you had better educate yourself and make sure you are getting what you are paying for?
Why is Valley Springs Elementary and Jenny Lind Elementary schools having to pay for every one else?
Help the school board make the tough decisions by notifying them on how you feel. Log on to Calaveras Unified School District’s web page www.calaveras.k12.ca.us and contact the school board member for yourself they need to hear your voice.
This information was provided by CUSD and a concerned parent with children in the CUSD system for over 17 years and forth generation resident.
Nick Hodgson.
