Church Reaches Out to Carnival

Frogtown, USA......Church Welcomes Carnival Workers..... Many of us, at some time, have thought of running away with the circus or the carnival. The life of carnival workers and their families is not easy. Much of the year is spent on the road. It’s hard to have a sense of belonging when moving around so much. In Calaveras County, Pastor Dan Boyce and the members and friends of San Andreas Community covenant Church (SACCC) hope to help promote the Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee as a .....

welcome destination for the carnival workers and their families. For the church, the welcome begins on the Tuesday before the fair opens. About thirty members of the SACCC youth group show up on the fairgrounds with free bottled water, soda and snacks to give to the carnival workers as they set up their rides and carnival booths. They also pass out an invitation to a free dinner on Thursday night after work .and to a free continental breakfast for all fair workers on Saturday morning. The dinner begins at 11:00 p.m. at the residential trailers for the carnival workers. There’s music and fun, a special welcome and a prayer of blessing for the workers and families by Pastor Dan. Afterwards the members of the dinner team will be available to talk one-on-one with the carnival folks. Although he never worked for a carnival, Pastor Dan did spend a number of years as a truck driver on the highways and byways of northern California and western Nevada so he can relate to life on the road. Dan and Teresa have five grown children the youngest of whom is currently serving in the Navy in Kuwait. Before coming to Calaveras County, Dan served churches in Bellingham, WA, Fresno and Rocklin. He was ordained to pastoral ministry with the Evangelical Covenant Church in 1996. Pastor Dan serves one of the six Covenant Churches serving the people of Calaveras County. A great opportunity to meet Pastor Dan in person is on Sundays, 10:30a.m. at San Andreas Community Covenant Church (across from Treat’s Market and behind the Bank of Lodi). Anyone who would like to help with the dinner on Thursday night is welcome.
