The Peleton Has Left The County ~By John Hamilton ...Now Updated with Over 100 Photos and Video

Jenny Lind, CA....The rolling event that is the Amgen Tour of California has just finished it trek across the western part of Calaveras County. As the peleton headed down Milton Road there was a break away group that was still about 5 minutes ahead of the main pack or peleton. 150 or so of the best cyclists in the world sped past us between 24-28 miles an hour as the race left the foothills behind and headed for Modesto.

A good sized crowd was on hand to cheer the riders on even in rural Calaveras County. Curves from Valley Springs had a pop up canopy up for everyone to get a break from the intermittent rain that greeted the riders and spectators today.

Today's stage will mark the first full stage of the race. The first stage in Lake Tahoe was canceled due to snow and yesterdays stage was shortened up a bit.

The long flat stage today should showcase the sprinters when they reach the finishing part of the stage in Modesto.
