Zucca Mountain Fires Up Murphys ~By Patrick Works

Gary and Carol Zucca hosted a wonderful dinner for their wine club members and other guests Saturday night at their tasting room in Murphys. Pourings and pairings focused on their 2009 Barbera, with foods of regional origin similar to that of this fine Mediterranean wine, now of course produced here in the Gold Country. Greek and Italian fare included cheese and olive appetizers with Italian breads from Sierra Hills Market, caprese skewers with heirloom baby tomatoes and basil from the garden of Lisa Logan, wine club and sales associate for Zucca Mountain...

Lisa has a long resume in the kitchen, having prepared and served huge events during her years working in Las Vegas, but Saturday night's event was a much more intimate affair, with 20 very spoiled guests in attendance. Together with Tasha Unninayar and Derec Bruchs, Lisa presented a sublime menu that was completed by a Barbera braised beef and ossobucco followed by desserts of course.

The Zuccas assembled this team to help them market what has become a number of notable and much loved (not to mention award winning!) Calaveras County wines. Saturday night was all about the Barbera.

Wine and food makes a dinner, but entertainment makes it a party, and the Zuccas pulled no punches in that area either. Starting off the evening was the amazing guitar of Nicholas Lefler, who set a sweet tone as guests dined and enjoyed their wine. As desserts were being served chairs were moved out back and guests assembled to quite a treat: amazing fire dancing by Mountain Mischief; the Sonora based Kevin and Brandy Axtell. Mountain Mischief is a husband and wife team who literally stopped traffic with their performance!

This reporter can't say if all the quarterly events hosted by Zucca are as spectacular as Saturday night's event, but it's pretty clear the Zuccas know how to throw a party!

Take a look at the pictures we got Saturday night! Wow!
