Former Mayor Ponte Announces Bid for District 4 Supervisor
Debbie Ponte, former Mayor of Angels Camp, announced her candidacy today for District 4 County Supervisor for Calaveras County. “I grew up in Calaveras County and I have been encouraged to run by community members, business leaders, friends and family. I have the character and the leadership experience to bring honor and integrity to the office and to do the job right from day one,” said Ponte. Ponte also expressed that she is excited about campaigning over the next several months, giving her the opportunity to meet the people of District 4, whom she would ultimately serve as County Supervisor. ...
For the past 11 years Ponte has served as the Executive Director of Foothill Village Senior Living Community which provides senior living accommodations to more than 70 seniors and employment opportunities for 65 employees. “I have been with the community since ground breaking and know first hand the trials and tribulations of starting a business from the ground up. I believe this kind of business building experience can help in the effort to recruit business to the area and create jobs,” stated Ponte.
Ponte graduated from CSU, Fresno in 1983 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism/Public Relations after attending San Joaquin Delta College. She is a graduate of Mark Twain Elementary (1974) and Bret Harte High School (1979) where she won her first election and served as Student Body President her senior year.

Ponte returned to the area in 1985, a few years after graduating from college, and became involved in a number of community service and civic organizations. She served two, four-year terms on the City of Angels City Council, four years as Mayor. While on the City Council, she also served as Board Chairperson for the Utica Power Authority during the time of the Darby Fire, which destroyed a portion of the flume system which supplied water to the communities of Murphys and Angels Camp.
Ponte and her husband David, a retired Fire Captain of the California Department of Forestry, reside in the Angels Camp area. They have two daughters, Michelle, age 19, attending Columbia Junior College and Nicole, age 17, a senior at Bret Harte High School.
