Cycling Royalty in the Foothills ~By John Hamilton
Valley Springs, CA...One memorable line Seana said was "It's You Against No...Never Say No!" It may come as a surprise to many of you but we have one of the most dominant cyclists of all time living right here in Calaveras County. In long distance cycling her records are unequaled by any women and almost no men. Some high points..She has won the RAAM or Race Across America a record setting 6 times. She owns the female record for the fastest transcontinental record at 9 Days and just over 4 hours. She was inducted into the Ultra Cycling Hall of Fame in 2004...
Some other records she owns..
From Seattle to San Diego she has the fastest time for women and men.
From San Francisco to LA for both men and women
From 1992 until last year she owned the world 24 hour track record. She will be trying to recapture that title and make it into the Guinness Book of World Records for the female 24 hour track record in the first part of May this year.
The records go on and on. I followed cycling in the late 80s and into the 1990s and when my son went to the same school a few years ago with Seana Hogan's son I thought that couldn't be That Seana Hogan but indeed it was.
She has been a software engineer for IBM for over 20 years and also holds a masters in Mathematics so the woman is obviously driven in other areas of her life as well.
In person she is infectious with a calm positive energy that you can tell allows her to pursue whatever goals she has her eyes on. In some of the races she has entered she has not only been the fastest women but the overall winner!!
We had the honor to spend a few minutes in an interview with her this week and the video is above
