Murphys, CA...Now in its fourth year, the Off the Beaten – Walk/Run for Autism Awareness will have a new look and several new features when it is staged on Saturday, April 25 in Murphys Community Park. The event, organized by the Mind Matters clinic, will now feature a 1K run, open to boys and girls aged seven and younger. There will be two other races, 5K and 10K, open to men and women of all ages. The scenic course will begin at the park and continue on Six Mile Road past rolling hills and beautiful vineyards. Participants who would rather walk than run are welcome to do so. Check-in time will start at 7 a.m. Following a warm-up session, conducted by Kat Juarez-Sutton, the first race will begin at 8 a.m. Awards will be presented in a variety of categories....

State Issues Draft of Emergency Drought Regulations

San Andreas, CA...If the latest draft of statewide water restrictions is approved, the Calaveras County Water District would be required to reduce its water use by 32 percent this year, when compared to the same time period in 2013. This is up significantly from the initial draft, which called for a 25 percent cutback. While the District is supportive of Gov. Edmund G. Brown’s efforts to reduce statewide residential water use by 25 percent during this unprecedented fourth year of drought, it’s important to achieve that goal through ground-tested policies and equitable regulations....

Washington, DC...California is now in its fourth year of the worst drought on record. Hydrologists estimate it is the worst drought in 1,200 years. The Sierra Snowpack today is just six percent of normal. Many of our reservoirs are nearly empty. One of our largest, the New Melones Reservoir on the Stanislaus River, is at just 22 percent of its capacity – with the rainy season now officially over. Water rationing is now in effect in many communities. Many Californians face $500 fines if they take too long in the shower or spill a gallon of water on their sidewalks...

Arnold & Angels Camp, CA...Local professional dog groomers donated their time and expertise to help local dogs get their Spring pedicures. During the two days almost 50 dogs came in to visit ! All proceeds from the two clinics went to the Calaveras Humane Society. Pictured below at the Humane Society Angels Thrift Store are Roberta Steely of The Groom Shop in Angels Camp, Carie Stroble, Angel Paws Mobile Pet Spa in Arnold and Patty Johnston of Swingstar Collies in Murphys. Angels Camp, CA...Cybullfrogs, a Bret Harte High School LegoRobotics club has received a $9993.00 grant from the Calaveras Community. The money will be used to buy hardware and software to allow more students to participate in the hands-on building of programmable robots. In March, 2014, a small group of Bret Harte students approached Timothy Randall, Math teacher, and Ken Baldwin, Drafting and Digital Photography teacher, with a desire to start a robotics club. The teachers volunteered as mentors and organizers and with the help of a grant from the Tyler Orsow Foundation and seed money from Bret Harte, the club was able to purchase four Lego Mindstorms kits....

Valley Springs, CA...Richard was born June 16th of 1945 to Donald and Margie Barnhart in Gardena California he resided with his wife of 50 years Susan Kay Barnhart Richard died April 20th 2015 at 3:30 a.m. at their residence surrounded by family and friends. Richard was a hard working man employed at Hunt Wesson, United Can and Ball as a maintenance manager where he retired at age 55. Hls hobbies prior to his illness were classic cars ,fishing and his yard. Richard was a beloved man survived by his wife Susan Barnhart son Thomas Barnhart and daughter in law Deborah Barnhart daughter Rebbeca Barnhart and granddaughter Dominique Rice great grandson Nathan Denver Rice and beloved family friend Tammy Courtroul. James “Butch” Joyner 1948 - 2015

San Andreas, CA...James “Butch” Joyner, 66, died unexpectedly Friday, April 17, 2015, at Modesto Memorial Hospital. He was born September 15, 1948, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to John and Carolyn Joyner who preceded him in death. Butch served in the United States Air Force from February 23, 1968, until December 8, 1971. He was a member of VFW in San Andreas. Butch will be remembered for his love of fishing and camping with family and friends. He was also an avid lover of sports which included the San Francisco Giants and his bowling league in Jackson....

Manslaughter Charges For Sunnyvale Woman In Fatal Accident. One Fatality & 4 With Major Injuries

Jamestown, CA...Brenda Barrera, 24 from Sunnyvale was charged with Felony DUI and Vehicular Manslaughter charges in yesterday's fatal accident on Hwy 120. She was driving a 2005 Mercedes C230 westbound on SR 120 at 10am east of La Grange Road at approximately 55 mph when she allowed her vehicle to cross the center line of the roadway and directly into the path of a 2005 Chevy Classic traveling eastbound. the driver of the Chevy Mr. Maxsimiano Aldana, 78 from Escalon sustained fatal injuries in the collision...

It starts the buildup to Calaveas County's week in the national and at times international spotlight as Frog Jockies saddle up to see who will reign supreme for another year.
