Copperoplis & West Point, CA...Crews have contained two small vegetation fires at under an acre each. One was in the Copperopolis are and the other in West Point. Lets be careful out there..

Arnold, CA..Dorothy Baughman-Fowler was born in Murray, Utah to Philip and Hazel Atkinson. She spent most of her youth in Inkom, Idaho. She married Charles Sherman Baughman in 1936 and they came to California shortly after. In 1957 they moved to Arnold, CA and lived there until Charles’ death in 1968....
Nancy Moritz of Burson passed away May 11, 2013 at the age of 80. She was born and raised in Menlo Park, Ca. Living her entire life in Calif. She was a member of the Lyons Club, Moose Lodge, Fire and Police Wives, Wallace Burson Assn., Red Hats, and volunteered at the Youth Center and kids day...
Sonora, Calif. (May 23, 2013)…The Forest Service today announced that 28 Stanislaus National Forest campgrounds and picnic areas will be open to accommodate visitors and campers for this Memorial Day weekend. At some higher elevations this year, a number of campgrounds will open later as the snow melts. All of the Forest’s 53 developed campgrounds, offering 1,466 campsites, are scheduled to be open and available by mid-summer this year....

The winter toys have been put away and we're bringing out the Kayaks, Canoes & Stand-up Paddleboards! Ebbett's Pass is open, but not quite ready for our put-ins so paddling on White Pines and Melones is where it's at. SNAC Arnold is now accepting reservations for our 16th Annual PaddleFest. There are a limited number of spots and we sell out every year, so give us a call if you want to book it. San Andreas, CA...The roadwork scheduled for Thursday, May 23, 2013, on State Route 49 in Calaveras County has been cancelled due to weather. The work that was to be performed requires warmer weather than we are currently experiencing. This work will be rescheduled in the future and we will send out the new date when it is available...

With summer right around the corner, the Food Bank is bracing for our numbers to increase. In May of last year we saw 1,142 families come into the Food Bank for food. Angels Camp, CA....Jay E. Quick of Angels Camp passed away peacefully in Modesto with family by his side on 5/21/13 at the age of 82. He was born in Drexel Hill Pennsylvania on 12/11/30 to May & Guy Quick Sr. He has called Calaveras County his home for the past 35 years. Jay and his “Child Bride” Clayre were married in August 18, 1961. They were happily married for 51 years....
