Working Structure Fire In Tamarack Area...Update: Fire Damaged Tamarack Pines Inn

Posted by: thepinetree on 01/23/2017 03:49 PM
Tamarack, CA...(Update as of 5:55pm...we would like to thank TCU Command for letting us know that it was the Tamarack Pines Inn and updating us on the fire. The fire in the structure has been knocked down and fire is now confined to the propane tanks behind the structure.) A very sad post as we just confirmed with Cal-Fire TCU command that firefighters are working an active structure fire at the Tamarack Lodge. It is unknown the extent of the involvement but when firefighters arrived there was smoke showing and they are attacking the fire... Update as of 4:28pm..We have been working to establish size and extent of the fire. The address also resolves to the The Tamarack Pines Inn which is a smaller bed and breakfast nearby. While still a sad event if this structure is damaged it would be much easier to rebuild or repair. Update as of 4:59pm....eastbound lane is blocked by fire equipment...

Tariffs Are Good For Votes But Bad For Economy & Jobs! ~ Letter To The Editor By Al Segalla

Posted by: thepinetree on 01/23/2017 03:08 PM
Copperopolis, CA...It seems protective tariffs are great for getting votes but horrible for the economy and jobs, according to the famous economist Milton Friedman. Why is that? Most of western civilization holds the concept human beings have natural rights. This is also the bases of Common Law. In our country, we have a Constitution that identifies these rights as Life, Liberty and Property. All trade and private contracts rest on the rights of Liberty and Property. In all willing transactions, both parties gain, resulting in prosperity and jobs.

Hey Good People!! 115 Inches Of "Pure Mountain Fun" From This Storm Alone!! ~ Mattly Trent

Posted by: thepinetree on 01/23/2017 09:51 AM
Bear Valley, CA...Hey Good People! 30" of new snow overnight and well..........it's epic! 115" for the storm total, 183" in 2 weeks, 279" for the season and 153" for our current base. We are closed today to recover from the copious amounts of snow yet our Mtn Ops teams are here and working hard for you so we can reopen for Tuesday January 24th 2017. Today's high is expected to be around 23F with SSW winds from 5-9 mph. We could pick up another 2-4" today before the system makes it's way East and gives way to High pressure arriving tomorrow and clear skies for the next 4-5 days. We're still assessing the Lwr mtn for Avalanche hazards which remain at 4 High currently but patience is the key here. Until then copious amounts of quality riding is to be had on the frontside/backside and village sides of our Mtn. Stay safe, ride with a friend and be aware of deep tree wells as they are abundant inbounds and in the soft boundaries. Come on up and check out our local "Pure Mtn Fun" ethos and stay tuned..........

Atlanta & New England To Meet In Super Bowl 2017

Posted by: thepinetree on 01/22/2017 08:33 PM
Atlanta and Foxborough....The games didn't quite life up to their billings and today's matchups were a bit more one sided than last weekend's classic battles. Green Bay's & Pittsburgh's defenses didn't have an answer for the Tom Brady & Matt Ryan led offenses. Atlanta is a very good balanced team and as good as their offense was their defense was spectacular. Likewise the Patriots defense kept the Steelers from getting into a good offensive grove.

Too Much Snow? Really? Bear Valley To Use Monday Catch Up On Over 6.5 Feet Of New Snow!

Posted by: thepinetree on 01/22/2017 07:14 PM
Bear Valley, CA...Ironic, but, yes, that is the situation. After over 6.5 feet of snow in the last 4 days and the expectation for another 18 inches overnight we plan to close operations on MONDAY JAN 23rd to recover our infrastructure. The massive amount of snow combined with high winds and road closures forced many California resorts to shut down on Sunday. We are thankful to our operation teams for making a heroic effort to get open today and provide a full weekend of skiing/riding on the fresh powder that so many of our guests love. However the storm cycle continues and strengthens overnight and into tomorrow morning.

Hey Good People!! 71 Inches From This Storm System & More To Fall!! ~ Mattly Trent

Posted by: thepinetree on 01/22/2017 01:53 PM
Bear Valley, CA...Hey Good People! 6" of new snow fell overnight as of 5am and winds are starting to pick up. We could see another 11-17" fall during the day today and winds are expected to increase this morning to around 24-34mph with some gusts to 50mph. The bulk of heavier winds will take place mostly in the am hours as the low pressure pushes onshore and warming convection from the days sunrise etc. By noon the winds should start to decrease somewhat as the system pushes farther East. Another 10-14" is expected to fall tonight and 2-4" is slated for Monday as the system presses East and comes to a close by late Monday night/early Tuesday morning. We're still assessing the Lwr mtn for Avalanche hazards which remain at a 4 High currently but patience is the key here. With the storm intensifying today it will remain closed. Until then copious amounts of quality riding is to be had on the frontside/backside and village sides of our Mtn. (Update...Suspect In Custody) Be On The Lookout For Dylan Ray Mills. Wanted For Assault & Pursuit Charges

Posted by: thepinetree on 01/22/2017 09:45 AM
Angels Camp, CA...(Update...Calaveras County deputies located and arrested Dylan Ray Mills, near the Red Hill Road transfer station in Vallecito.) Dylan Ray Mills, a 22 year old white male, is wanted for charges related to an assault and pursuit that occurred earlier today in Amador County. Details are still unclear, but apparently Mills was present during an assault involving a knife and fled when Amador County law enforcement officers arrived. A pursuit was initiated in Amador County and was terminated for unknown reasons as it approached Calaveras County. Calaveras County deputies spotted the vehicle associated with Mills and continued the pursuit. The vehicle was pursued into Angels Camp, and at approximately 2 AM on today's date an Angels Camp officer utilized spike strips to disable the vehicle Mills was in as it traveled through Angels Camp. The vehicle came to a stop near the intersection of S. Main Street and Stanislaus Avenue, and Mills fled on foot. Another subject in the vehicle was taken into custody by Calaveras County deputies.

Sunday Morning Power Outage Update....Much Progress Made But Many Still Or Newly In Dark

Posted by: thepinetree on 01/22/2017 09:36 AM
Arnold, CA...The numbers are falling but it was another cold and dark night for many in our area. Many of these outages are new or variations from yesterday. Winds overnight brought down more trees and limbs into power lines and service drops to houses. Interestingly the total number of repair instances seems about the same or higher but the total number in the dark is dropping so they are making good progress. Another observation yesterday when we were out and about is that it didn't seem to be beetle kill trees but green living trees that were carrying a full foliage load to carry snow and hence weight. Our hats off the the crews that are working in abysmal and dangerous conditions. To make it a bit easier to read the list is below the graphic.
