Calaveras County, CA...Vallecito Music Boosters has worked tirelessly with parents and students over the past two decades to support music in Calaveras County. Their efforts filled the foothills with music by sponsoring music scholarships to students from k-college freshmen. Four to five $200 scholarships were granted to students annually to pursue music workshops, purchase of or rental of instruments, sheet music, lesson, and more. Their hard work is and was to encourage students to pursue music both in participation and appreciation. .....

Dallas, TX...The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed today, through laboratory tests, the first case of Ebola to be diagnosed in the United States in a person who had traveled to Dallas, Texas from Liberia. The patient did not have symptoms when leaving West Africa, but developed symptoms approximately four days after arriving in the U.S. on Sept. 20....

The entire community is invited to participate in the annual „Pink in the Night‟ opening ceremony October 1st, in Valley Springs at the Terrace‟s (Common Grounds) at 7:00pm. All those who currently have breast cancer, survivors and support providers will be able to light a candle in tribute to those who are currently battling breast cancer, in remembrance of those that bravely lost their battle, or ones that have survived the disease....

The orientation and training session will occur on October 23, 2014 from 1 to 5pm in Sonora. Volunteers will learn how to provide support and respite care for patients and families. Governor Brown Signs Bill To Ban Plastic Grocery Bags

Sacramento, CA...Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today signed the nation’s first statewide ban on single-use plastic bags – SB 270 – aligning state law with ordinances passed by a growing number of local governments in California to reduce plastic waste. “This bill is a step in the right direction – it reduces the torrent of plastic polluting our beaches, parks and even the vast ocean itself,” said Governor Brown. “We’re the first to ban these bags, and we won’t be the last.”

Sonora, California, 9/29/14- In response to the ongoing Local State of Emergency due to drought conditions, and calls for significant reductions in water use, several organizations have come together to produce a conference called Building a Water Use Efficient Community. The free conference, open to the public, begins at 8:30 AM on Saturday, 10/18 and continues on Sunday, 10/19 in the Creekside Building, Mother Lode Fairgrounds in Sonora. I am very pleased to inform you that on September 19th , I was notified by DBW that we have been awarded an $80,000.00 grant for the purchase of a new patrol boat. Mark Phillips the GM of The Bear Valley Lodge narrates a wonderful video that was created for the Ebbetts Pass Historical Association. The Video runs about 50 minutes and gives a fascinating & entertaining view of the history of the Bear Valley Area.
