Wines of the World January 10th - Argentina and Chile ~Calaveras Winegrape Alliance Feature

Murphys, CA...Please join us at the Murphys Hotel with Guest Presenter Tom Bender as he takes us through a flight of Argentina and Chille wines. Tom is a wine educator with over 30 years of expereince in the industry, we'll taste wines from Latin America. 5:30pm, Murphys Historic Hotel, January 10, 2013 Wines of the World is an integral part of the wine association’s educational program. Cost for CWA members is $15 and $25 for non-members. Guests are welcomed to dine at the hotel afterward with a $5 discount on each entrée. Tom Bender and his wife, Wendy, started visiting the Gold Country during the 1970s and moved here in 1975. Bender has been president of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce and served on the board of directors of the Tuolumne County Visitors Bureau. He was a founding board member of the Bed and Breakfast Innkeepers Association of California He continues to serve as chairman and organizer of the Calaveras County Fair’s wine judging contest, a job he has had since 1980.


He has been a college instructor for 30 years. Since leaving the City Hotel in 2005, he has continued teaching in Columbia College’s Culinary Arts Program. He also manages the wine department and wine bar at O’Brien’s Market, a specialty store in Modesto, and he is a regular contributor on food and wine to several magazines and newspapers, including The Union Democrat.
