Genice Wickum Featured Artist For September At Hovey
Murphys, August 29, 2013 – The acclaimed photography of Genice Wickum will be featured the month of September at Hovey Winery Tasting Room, 350 A Main St., Murphys. An artist’s reception in her honor will be held Saturday, Sept. 7 from 5:45 to 7:15 p.m. complete with a complimentary glass of wine, appetizers and live music by Jill Warren. Additional wine is available by the glass or bottle. Guests are invited to bring picnics to enjoy in the garden...
Genice Valentino Wickum is a fine art photographer who was born and raised in the
San Francisco Bay Area and has called Twain Harte home for the past 22 years. She holds a BFA in Photography from the Academy of Art in San Francisco.
The photographs that Wickum creates are inspired by her passion for seeing and connecting with the beauty in our everyday world that often goes unnoticed. While the subject matter of her photographs has a wide range, the underlying thread that connects all of her work is her interest in how one’s state of mind affects not only what is seen but also how it’s seen.
Wickum works with film, digital and alternative processes. Her work has been widely published and exhibited nationally.
“Once I saw Genice’s ‘water color’ series, I was enthralled and asked her to display her photography in the tasting room,” explains Jan Hovey, co-owner with husband, Chuck. “Her artistry captures the most amazing colors reflected in rippled water and is an exceptional tribute to Mother Nature. You just have to see it!”
During the reception Jill Warren will perform vocals and guitar music. An established musician, songwriter and stage perform, Warren was chosen to perform in the successful all-girl rock band, Miss Behavin,’ at Disneyland. She has toured the Western U.S. opening for the likes of Boy George, the Everly Brothers, Janis Ian and Taj Majal. As a solo artist, Jill recorded two full-length CD's. To spice things up, Jill joined an all-female rock band called Somebody's Ex as a singer, electric and acoustic guitarist, and songwriter.
Hovey Tasting Room is open daily from noon to 5:30 p.m. and is open later until 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays for wine by the glass or bottle in the garden. Cheese plates crafted by caterer Skye Ruggieri are available for $12 Fridays and Saturdays and include three different cheeses, quince paste, crackers, fresh fruit, olives and sliced baguette Sourdough bread.
