Linda Abbott Featured Artist in October at Hovey Tasting Room
Murphys, CA...The acclaimed oil paintings of Linda Abbott will be showcased the month of October at Hovey Winery Tasting Room, 350 A Main St., Murphys. An artist’s reception in her honor will be held Friday, Oct. 11 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. with complimentary appetizers. Wine is available by the glass or bottle and guests are invited to bring picnics to enjoy in the garden...

“I am primarily a plein air painter; that is my absolute favorite way to paint,” she shared. “Painting outside, on site, presents a special set of challenges and makes the creation of art much more fun and exciting. Weather changes, light changes and subject matter can disappear, but it is all part of the ‘game.’ There is a spontaneity that comes with the plein air style of painting that, for me, cannot be duplicated in a studio setting. When practical, I will take my still arrangements outside to paint them. The natural light is special.”
Abbott is a graduate of UCLA where she earned a teaching credential along with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She taught art at Glendale High School for several years before living and working in Yosemite National Park for 30 years. Linda, and her husband, Arvin, then relocated to Yellowstone National Park. They currently live part-time in Arnold.
Her work has been juried in both national and regional exhibits including the Oil Painters of America, American Women Artists and the American Impressionist Society. She has participated in the Carmel Art Festival, Sonoma Plein Air Festival, Napa Art Festival, the Cal Expo Plein Aire Painting event in Sacramento and the PleinAir Paintout for the Carmel River. Her work can be seen at First Street Gallery in Turlock, the Tree Top Gallery in Mariposa and Gallatin River Gallery in Big Sky, Montana. Art can be viewed on lindaabbottart.com.
“I’ll never forget seeing Linda’s art for the first time when I worked in Yosemite almost 30 years ago,” exclaimed Jan Hovey. “In many ways having Linda here in Murphys is a coming-home for me. She’s an exceptional woman and a very talented artist.”
Hovey Tasting Room is open daily from noon to 5:30 p.m. and is open later until 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays for wine by the glass or bottle in the garden. Cheese plates catered by Skye Ruggieri are available for $12 Fridays and Saturdays.
