Are You One of "These" People? We Sure Hope So!
Arnold, CA...Did you ask your parents “Why” so much they threatened you and you still asked anyway? Is “What Happened” a question you can always answer? Do you post so many news links on your Facebook timeline your friends would rather see a picture of your food? Has “Having to Know” chased friends away? Is “That's All There Is?” something you say after reading/watching/browsing every news outlet you can find? Have you actually cried watching the news when something horrific has happened in the world? Do you think news should be news and not left or right? Do you see every story through the lens of how will this affect your community and neighborhood? If most of the questions above felt too close to home then we need to talk, we need you and we are here to help!!
Starting in 2014 we will be launching a new way local news outlets are built. We will be building teams for different communities that are part multi-level, part co-op and all news. News outlets where all accounting is open to all team members and over 80% of the revenue goes directly to those that write, photograph and chronicle on the communities they serve.
The core beliefs we will focus on.
Speed: The company will be built on speed with the goal to report first on any major story that affect's a community we serve.
Efficiency: A small, passionate and motivated team can out perform any regular team.
Openness: All financial and personnel decisions will be open to everyone on the team.
Caring: Team members have to care about what is best for each team member and also the communities and people they cover!!
Goal Driven: Open Goals and Open Procedures.
Flexible: A flexible business environment where we can accommodate team members who want to be the next news superstar to those whom want to follow their news passion on a part time basis.
Fairness: We want to be fair in our news coverage and fair with team members. Contribute more, Earn more. Content is king! Those that contribute the most will earn the most.

P.S, ThePineTree.net was born and raised in Calaveras County and what we hope to build really could be unique. There will be no operational changes in ThePineTree.net. Our goal is something akin to the AP for small communities. Many people have tried including us to find the right formula for local community news. It isn't news that the news business has had a hard time moving to the purely digital age.
News yearns to be free but you have to be real efficient to deliver free. Billions have been borrowed, spent and lost including hundreds of millions recently with the AOL division Patch. Every grand plan to adopt traditional media company structure to local news has failed to scale.
Why are we different? We may not be and time will tell. The main thing we will be changing is the company structure itself. No venture capital, or exit strategies but a belief that the news business is in need of some changes.
Community News is special in that we can argue over national political issues but if your neighbor has cancer and there is a fundraiser to help out it no longer matters what political direction they lean. They are your friend and neighbor that is in the fight of their life. They want the same things for local schools, their kids, the business down the street as you do.
We have become so divided nationally that we forget that we still agree on the majority of issues. News from the perspective of Main Street has the power to change that. We hope to build something that builds on what Calaveas County at it's core still has. It needs to be shared.
What we will be building will be based on lessons learned from what is approaching a decade of actually working in the industry and publishing over 38,000 stories.
