What’s Happening in Murphys this Week December 24 through January 1

Murphys, CA...Call to all artists! Ironstone Vineyards 17th Annual Spring Obsession Art Show is accepting entry forms for their Open Division due January 31st and Theme Division due January 3rd. For more information please call (209) 728-1251 ext. 45...





Food Drive at the Murphys Volunteer Library - The library is sponsoring a food drive for The Resource Connection Food Bank. On Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursdays in November and December, bring a bag of non-perishable food to the Murphys Library and exchange for a bag of our gently used books. The library is open 11 AM to 4:30 pm, if you have any questions please call 209-728-3036.

December Guest Artists at Art on Main - The wood turnings of Dick Bradford and clay sculptures of Marlene Bradford will be on display during December. Dick is a wood-turner who makes beautiful, decorative, and artistic wooden pieces for display in your home or office. Art on Main is also offering his beautifully made toy spinning tops. Marlene is a well-known clay sculptor who creates artful clay pieces -- both whimsical and serious. The artist of the month during December will be Judy Morgan.

January Artist Showing at Hovey Tasting Room - The impeccable watercolor paintings of Dave Gano depicting the many wonders of the Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway will be showcased during the month of January at Hovey Winery Tasting Room, 350 A Main St., Murphys. An artist’s reception in his honor will be held Sunday, Jan. 5 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. with complimentary appetizers and wine available by the glass for $5.The tasting room is open daily from noon to 5:30 p.m.

Tuesdays in Murphys - Winemakers Night at Alchemy - every Tuesday night from 4:30 to 7:30 pm. Enjoy a featured wine and a great meal. As always, there is live music on the patio from 5:30-8 pm. Call 209.728.0700 for reservations.

Thursdays in Murphys - Romantic Dinners for Two with Live Music at Angelos Steakhouse Italiano. Nicholas Lefler plays on Thursdays from 7-9 pm. Call 209-728-9200 for more information.

Fridays & Saturdays in Murphys - Local Food & Wine Tours - Join
Murphys Food and Wine Tours every Friday and Saturday from 11:00am to 2:30 pm. Each tour is a approximately three and a half hours. You’ll get the inside story about the area’s rough-and-tumble past. Fridays and Saturdays at Zucca Tasting Room - "Zucca After Hours" is open 5-8 pm. If you're looking for a cozy spot to enjoy a glass of wine on a Friday or Saturday night, the Zucca garden is your place. All those firepits are even better to sit by on a cool winter evening. If the weather is cold, we've got indoor seating too. And we always welcome your picnic items or takeout from area restaurants should you want to make a night of it."

Saturdays in Murphys - Walking Tours of Historic Downtown Murphys are available at no charge (donations gratefully accepted) on Saturday mornings at 10am leaving from the Old Timers Museum. Please contact Jo Sanders at 209-728-3072 to confirm dates and times or make arrangements for large groups.

December 25, 2013 - Murphys Friends Free Christmas Dinner at the Native Sons Hall - 12:30 pm - Dinner, Santa and chance to catch up with your friends.

December 28, 2013 - Guided Hikes at Big Trees State Park - 12:30 to 2"30 pm - Docents/rangers offer a guided hike through the North Grove area of the park. The hike is approximately 1.5 hours long and is free with paid admission to the park. When the snow covers the ground the hikes become guided snowshoe walks. Snowshoes are provided free, first come first served. No reservations are allowed. Check in at the Warming Hut no later than 12:30 pm.

December 31, 2013 - Annual New Year's Eve Gala at the Murphys Historic Hotel - Dinner, Music and Champagne to Toast the New Year. Call 209-728-3444 for reservations and information.

December 31, 2013 - Plan B Brings in the New Year at Cactus Jacks.
