Calaveras Grape Stomp Celebrates 23rd Anniversary October 1, 2016! Don't Miss All The Action

Posted by: News_Desk on 09/27/2016 04:26 PM
Murphys, CA...The Calaveras Grape Stomp, held in conjunction with the Gold Rush Street Faire, is a unique, fun-filled day for the whole family. Stompers! Check your Starting Times!!At the Grape Stomp, teams of two - a Swabber (sometimes called a Mucker) and a Stomper compete to extract the most juice out of measured amounts of wine grapes. The juice is precisely measured and prizes are awarded to all the winners, with special prizes for the top finishers in the Championship Stomp. And, new this year, every team gets their very own Stomp Bag of Swag!Teams are encouraged to appear in costume, or not, and prizes are awarded for costumes based on originality, design, and effort. But there’s a lot more to the Grape Stomp than the wanton destruction of two tons of perfectly good grapes.

Outdoor Burning Still Suspended

Posted by: News_Desk on 10/01/2016 10:10 AM
San Andreas, CA...With the possibility of rain showers this weekend, it is important to remember that burning is still suspended. These light early-season rains do not provide the thorough soaking needed to make conditions safe for burning debris piles. Illegal burning at this time results in numerous wildfires from escaped debris burns. Outdoor burning will be prohibited until we receive significant wetting rain.

Planning Director On Cannabis Database

Posted by: thepinetree on 09/30/2016 04:42 PM
San Andreas, CA...A great deal of controversy has arisen with the decision by the Calaveras Enterprise to publish the location of cannabis cultivation registration sites in the county. The Enterprise and many others submitted Public Records Act requests to review the files shortly after the close of the initial filing deadline of June 30th. Due to sensitive medical and personal identification information in the files, we refused access to the files, but the County has a legal responsibility to provide public records. We informed the requestors that once a database containing the information was developed, redacting medical and other sensitive information, we would provide that to them in-lieu of releasing the files for review.
