GABA Launches into 2014 with Gusto
Arnold, CA...Bursting into the new year with gusto, newly elected president of the Greater Arnold Business Association Paul Bertini led a standing room-only crowd Monday night through a brainstorming session of ideas for some innovative new projects and events in 2014. Bertini, a 22-year resident and businessman from Avery, expressed his personal commitment to the members of GABA while calling on the meeting participants to invest “two or three days this year” as volunteers for making the Ebbetts Pass corridor a better place to live, work and shop...
Newest directors are Colleen Brophy, proprietor of Colleen’s Salon and Tattoo Removal and Zoe Chiaramonte, a veteran events planner in Arnold. Joining them is Gary Hauer, who with his family operates Arnold Ace Home Center, Ebbetts Pass Lumber and The Outhouse Collection.
Completing their two-year terms as directors include Aaron Fox, Service Manager of Fox Security and general manager of Ironstone Vineyards, Bruce Rohrer.
GABA’s officers for 2014 are newly elected director and secretary Tami Schaner, manager of the Visitor Center Store at Calaveras Big Trees State Park; treasurer Lisa Wiggins, Business Manager of Fox Security and vice president Linda Baker, Arnold’s Postmaster.
Bertini is returning for his second term as director. His accomplishments leading up to this new challenge are many. The most visible evidence of his maverick approach regards the installation of new display signs lining Highway 4. In 2012, Bertini took it upon himself to build and mount the signs, promoting things one can do in and around Arnold.
Based on the attractive Ebbetts Pass Scenic Byway signs, Bertini arranged a team of volunteers to see these icons mounted on utility poles – without waiting for approval by CalTrans or PG&E.
Known for his blunt, to-the-point positions on topical issues, Bertini has often been known to tell his fellow GABA directors “Let’s land this plane” when trying to move along the agenda and deliver results.
At GABA’s first town hall meeting of 2014, outgoing president Bob Doten said of Bertini: “For that last two years GABA has made a favorable impact on Arnold’s economy. We have also established a strong foundation for the future; now Paul is poised to capitalize on this opportunity to continue making Arnold a better place to live and work.”
