U.O.P. Publishes Study of the Fiscal Impact of Cannabis Regulation on the Calaveras County Budget

Posted by: News_Desk on 08/16/2017 03:01 PM
Stockton, CA...The University of the Pacific Center for Business and Policy Research published a comprehensive study of the fiscal impact of regulated cannabis on the Calaveras County budget. The study demonstrates that regulating commercial cannabis is estimated to generate between $7.2 million and $15.9 million in net revenue for the County after accounting for additional County costs that would result from the cannabis regulation program. This net revenue represents between 12% and 25% of the County general fund and thus would make a substantial difference to the County’s efforts to resolve its structural deficit and improve a range of public services.

Kayak Raffle for COTA in Honor of Baby Jace

Posted by: thepinetree on 08/13/2017 10:07 AM
San Luis Obispo, CA...My name is Jace and I want to tell you my story. I was born March 2017 in San Luis Obispo County, California to the best parents ever, Andrew and Rebecca. Since coming home from the hospital after being born, I was giving my parents something to worry about because I had blood in my stool. At first my pediatrician though it was a food allergy so my mom had to alter her diet so much that she only ate chicken and rice. Unfortunately, it did not help so my pediatrician recommended that I see a pediatric GI specialist. The GI specialist saw me and ordered some routine blood work. Later that night, my parents received a phone call and the doctor suggested I go to Twin Cities ER to get my blood work redrawn because I had dangerously low platelet levels. The ER processed my blood and again my platelets were very low so they recommended that we drive to Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera that night. My parents and I stayed there for two weeks and after many blood tests, upper and lower GI scope with biopsies, and a bone marrow biopsy, I was transferred via ambulance to Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford. After almost another week, the final test my team of doctors sent off was a genetic test to Cincinnati, Ohio hoping for a conclusive result. After close to a month of genetic testing, it was undeniable…….I have WAS.

Posted by: thepinetree on 08/15/2017 06:01 PM
Murphys, CA...When different generations of country music come together, something magical happens. That’s exactly what happened when Kacey Musgraves teamed up with legendary Willie Nelson for the track “Are You Sure.” The video is set in a small town bar with a moving disco ball that features Kacey and Willie lonely at the bar drinking. Shortly after, they join the band performing on stage for an epic duet. The song proves that although Kacey sings modern tunes about issues today like ‘Follow Your Arrow,’ and ‘Mind Your Own Biscuits,’ she comes from an old country soul.

Walmart CEO Doug McMillon on Charlottesville & Racial Tensions

Posted by: thepinetree on 08/15/2017 03:04 PM
Bentonville, AR...Respect for the individual is one of our core beliefs at Walmart. And the role we play in communities around the country to build a more diverse and inclusive society is more critical than ever as the tragic events in Charlottesville over the weekend painfully reminded us. Our prayers are with the victims and their families. As we watched the events and the response from President Trump over the weekend, we too felt that he missed a critical opportunity to help bring our country together by unequivocally rejecting the appalling actions of white supremacists. His remarks today were a step in the right direction and we need that clarity and consistency in the future.

Astrophotography Fans Head for Our Hills ~ From John Michnowicz

Posted by: thepinetree on 08/14/2017 06:15 PM
Lake Alpine, CA....Lake Alpine is a wonderful location for astrophotography and I'm not sure how many of your readers appreciate the variety of night objects that can be viewed from the shoreline of Lake Alpine. I've attached two photos that I took this past Saturday, Aug. 12. One shows the early night sky (thus the blue sky color) with the Milky Way and four meteors streaking through the sky. The meteors are from the Perseid meteor shower that peaked over the weekend. The other photo was taken about 45 minutes later and shows the bright Milky Way Galactic Center over the western side of the lake. Both images were taken on the north shore of the lake about 100 feet from Rt. 4.
