Posted by: thepinetree on 10/29/2014 09:58 PM
Kansas City, MO... The names roll smoothly off the tongue, for they have become legendary. Willie Mays. Willie McCovey. Barry Bonds. Juan Marichal. Christy Mathewson. Carl Hubbell. Mel Ott. Each occupies a hallowed spot in the pantheon of Giants franchise greats. Add another to this distinguished group: Madison Bumgarner. The 25-year-old left-hander joined this distinguished group Wednesday night by completing a World Series performance that just might rank as the finest by a Giant in the club history. He garnished his victories in Games 1 and 5 with five shutout innings of relief to earn the save in Game 7 to help San Francisco outlast the Kansas City Royals, 3-2. The decision sealed the Giants' third World Series triumph in five season.

As a result, he possessed a substantial history and institutional memory about public policy contributing to his outstanding success as a public servant and was known for brilliant quotes. In response to a speaker with whom he disagreed, Senator Moynihan quipped, “Everyone is entitled to his own opinions, but not his own facts.” He has also observed, “The single most exciting thing you encounter in government is competence, because it’s so rare.”

COUNTING THE DAYS AND HOURS Daylight Saving Time in California ~ By Bob Mulvany

Calaveras County, CA...We will “fall back” from daylight saving time on November 2. Whew! That is only 49 days before the Winter Solstice. Then on the second Sunday of March 2015 we “spring forward” again. This happens in most states with Arizona being one of the few exceptions. Daylight Saving Time is not entirely popular and there are some drawbacks. For example, it has been found that accidents of all types increase on days following the time change in March. This probably results from sleep deprivation.

CCWD Sets Aside Funds For Infrastructure Upgrades ~ By Don Stump

Posted by: thepinetree on 10/28/2014 07:24 AM
Arnold, CA...This is a section of pipe that was removed from the main water line in Arnold that blew out Wednesday night on Blagen Road. As you can see, this pipe is way past the end of its useful life. I'm excited that planning, engineering and permitting are almost completed so the Calaveras County Water District can replace this transmission line next summer. This 12-inch transmission line supplies water to a large number of homes and businesses in Arnold. This year alone, there have been four major blowouts in the pipe. That is just not acceptable. District staff has warned CCWD board members for the last 15 years that there are critical problems with pipes, pumps, tanks and facilities. When infrastructure failures occur, it’s inconvenient for our residential customers, but it’s especially difficult for customers who own commercial restaurants and places of lodging. CCWD staff strives to repair these infrastructure failures as quickly as possible, and I’m very proud of how hard they work to restore water service to our customers....

Suspect In Killing Of Deputies Had Multiple Identities

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Luis Enrique Monroy-Bracamonte was living in the United States illegally. He had been convicted in Arizona for selling drugs and he had been deported to Mexico twice. His background would have almost certainly flagged him to be expelled from the country again. But he appeared to be living quietly with his wife in a suburb of Salt Lake City until being arrested Friday, accused of going on a shooting rampage in Northern California that left two sheriff's deputies dead and a motorist seriously wounded.
