Union Congregational Church to host local Cancer Moonshot Summit - June 29th

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/24/2016 11:12 AM
Angels Camp, CA...The following is comments from Karen Rojas addressing the City Council on the Summit. "Even though it’s not on the agenda, thank you for allowing me to have 3 minutes to speak on a grave matter that does affect Angels Camp. I cannot imagine that there is a single person in this room whose life or that of a loved has not been impacted by cancer. President Nixon declared the War on Cancer back in the 70s and although there have been successes, the Standard of Care - surgery, radiation, and chemo - has not “cured” cancer. If it was 1 in a 1,000 40 years ago and will soon be 1 in 5, it’ll hit 1 in 2 for our grandchildren. For decades, cancer has baffled scientists and experts around the globe, claiming over 8 million lives worldwide in 2012 alone. Numbers of newly-diagnosed cancer cases are expected to rise by 70% over the next 20 years.

Prime Minister David Cameron On The UK Leaving EU & Leaving Office

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/24/2016 08:28 AM
London, UK...The country has just taken part in a giant democratic exercise – perhaps the biggest in our history. Over 33 million people – from England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Gibraltar – have all had their say. We should be proud of the fact that in these islands we trust the people with these big decisions. We not only have a parliamentary democracy, but on questions about the arrangements for how we are governed, there are times when it is right to ask the people themselves, and that is what we have done.

Angels Camp, CA...Family owned and operated since 1955, Middleton's Mark twain Center, Inc was originally Calaveras Mercantile bought be Hank and Matilda Middleton in 1955. Starting as a furniture, feed, fabric and appliance business in the original 1500 sq. ft. location proved to not meet the needs of the community. They built and developed the first shopping center in the county. He anchored his 27,000 sq. ft. furniture, appliance, hardware, and gift shop with a local bank and grocery store....

Forest Service Survey Finds Record 66 Million Dead Trees in Southern Sierra Nevada

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/22/2016 02:02 PM
Vallejo, CA...The U.S. Forest Service today announced that it has identified an additional 26 million trees dead in California since October 2015. These trees are located in six counties across 760,000 acres in the southern Sierra Nevada region of the state, and are in addition to the 40 million trees that died statewide from 2010 to October 2015, bringing the total to at least 66 million dead trees. Four consecutive years of severe drought in California, a dramatic rise in bark beetle infestation and warmer temperatures are leading to historic levels of tree die-off.

The wine was styled in a big, bold way like nobody else could do. That's what makes us Black Sheep; we're different from the rest of the flock. We feature small batches of limited release wines handcrafted from high quality grapes grown in Calaveras and Amador Counties. We produce about 2,500 cases of wine per year, specializing in Zinfandels and Rhone varietals.

Orlando, FL...In order to provide an update on the progress of the investigation into the Pulse nightclub shooting, the FBI is releasing an excerpt from the timeline of events inside the Pulse nightclub during the early morning hours of Sunday, June 12, 2016. Out of respect for the victims of this horrific tragedy, law enforcement will not be releasing audio of the shooter’s 911 calls at this time, nor will law enforcement be releasing audio or transcripts of the calls made by victims at the Pulse nightclub during the incident. Furthermore, the name of the shooter and that of the person/group to whom he pledged allegiance are omitted.

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/20/2016 06:25 AM

The American people, and people all over the world, are standing with them – and we always will.

The Revitalized Murphys Homecoming Is July 16th! Don't Miss It!

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/19/2016 11:32 PM
Murphys, CA...For many years, Murphys Homecoming was a much anticipated and well-attended annual event. It was a time for residents, their friends from neighboring communities, and the people who had moved away to gather for a Norman Rockwell like day of fun, games, music, picnics, and camaraderie. It was a big deal. In recent years, with all the competing activities, and a dwindling number of volunteers, Homecoming has not been as successful. The Murphys Community Club’s board of directors is determined to reverse that trend and, along with a volunteer planning committee, breathe new life into this cherished tradition.
