Calaveras County, CA...President Al Segalla opened the meeting on Thursday, September 11 at 5:05 PM at the outdoor seating area in the yard of the Steve Fairchild’s new mine site on Sugar Loaf Mountain across from Moaning Cavern Park in Vallecito. Present were Directors Tonja Dausend, Bob Mulvany, Steve Fairchild, and Kyran Enzi. Executive Council members Kiss Anderson, Sheila Russo and Cory Burnell, as well as guests from the community were present. Cathy Mason and Kyran Enzi coordinated the event.....

Work is scheduled to begin Monday, September 15, 2014, through Friday, September 19, 2014, from 6:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Motorists should expect 20-40 minute delays. Bob leaves behind two sons, Eric Burkett of Sacramento and Ryan Burkett of Chico; a sister Carolyn Harris of Simi Valley. He became a resident of Valley Springs in 2005. He was a good friend and confidante. We will surely miss him. May he rest in peace...

Sacramento, CA...Wildfire season is in full swing and the American Red Cross Capital Region is hard at work supporting communities affected by continuing, drought-fueled blazes throughout our 24-county territory. American Red Cross Capital Region volunteers are hard at work assisting residents impacted by two large wildfires – the Boles Fire in the City of Weed (Siskiyou County) and the King Fire (El Dorado County). Since Sunday, the Red Cross has operated three shelters, providing overnight stays for more than 200 residents and serving hundreds of meals to the affected communities....

Farm Bureau Will Actively Monitor Implementation of Groundwater Law

Expressing disappointment in Gov. Brown’s decision to sign a package of groundwater bills, the president of the California Farm Bureau Federation said the organization will now focus on how the bills are implemented. “We’re concerned that these hastily written measures may come to be seen as ‘historic’ for all the wrong reasons,” California Farm Bureau President Paul Wenger said. “Truly historic measures were taken more than 50 years ago, when President Kennedy and Gov. Pat Brown broke ground on water projects that ultimately allowed California to become a world economic power with food production that rivals that of entire nations.”...

Since 2006, Grant has served our community as the Calaveras Superior Court Commissioner where he regularly presides over family law and civil disputes. From 2011 through 2013, he also served as Court Commissioner for Amador County Superior Court, at their judges’ request, until a suitable replacement could be recruited and trained. In 2013, Grant was named Judicial Officer of the Year by the Child Support Directors Association of California.
