Call for Artists Kicks Off Major “River Reflections” Project

Amador County, Ca...Artists of all disciplines who live in Amador and Calaveras Counties are invited to submit qualifications and samples of work for an opportunity to participate in a project called “River Reflections.” The deadline to submit an application on line is midnight, August 22, 2014. Artists selected as Finalist Artists will be invited to create work inspired by the Mokelumne River, and they will have until December 1st to do so. Visual artists - in both two and three dimensional genres- dancers, musicians, composers, actors, literary, and video artists are encouraged to discover the application details at Last spring AmadorArts submitted the “River Reflections” project for a “Creative California Communities” Grant from the California Arts Council, a State Agency. Turns out, the local arts council has become one of 24 successful grantees out of 157 applicants statewide. AmadorArts, in partnership with Calaveras County Arts Council, the Foothill Conservancy and East Bay Municipal Utilities District, will spotlight the arts to increase awareness of the upper Mokelumne River, appreciation of its beauty and recreational opportunities, and the need for conservation. The inspired art, music, dance, and stories will be showcased in events scheduled in the first five months of 2015....

Catholic Charities and UCSF have partnered up and received a 1.8 million dollar grant from the NIH to study different interventions for treating depression in older adults living in rural areas...

Murphys, CA....Crews are working an overturned vehicle on Six Mile Road past Ironstone Vineyards by Vallecito Bluffs. An ambulance was dispatched as well. So locals....the back way / shortcut to Murphys may be a longer route until the incident clears...

Calaveras County – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform one-way traffic control on State Route 4 from Main Street/Douglas Flat to Meko Drive in Calaveras County for paving work. Work will begin on Monday, August 18, 2014, through Friday, August 22, 2014, from 6:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Motorists should expect 20 minute delays. Alternate routes should be taken whenever possible....

Main St./Hwy 49) and check out Strummer and the other kittens! Don't forget we will also have kitties at our Arnold Adoption Center each week, located in Meadowmont Center next to Big Trees Market. There will be kitties available at both locations. The Adoption Centers are open Thursday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm. Come on in and meet the kitties!

Fire Update...Structure, Vehicle and Vegetation Fire In Ione

Ione, CA...Crews are working a fire on Tonzi Road in Ione. Initial reports are vehicles, vegetation and now a structure involved. It is putting out a fairly good smoke column as well. Full Wildland response plus two more tankers and one more helicopter. More to follow if needed....

Murphys, CA...Crews are working a structure fire off of Pennsylvania Gulch with threat to vegetation. Lots of cavalry inbound on this one and please use caution and avoid the area... Update as of 12:13pm....looks like they should be able to kep it from spreading to vegetation but more resources inbound for the structure fire... Update as of 12:22pm...Just checked in with TCU Command and they confirmed a fully involved structure with minimal spread to vegetation. Lets be careful our there.... Update...We checked with TCU Command and there were no injuries but a home that was under construction was a complete loss....
