Mark Twain St. Joseph's Hospital Names Cafe' After Long Time Employee, Carmen Giuffra
San Andreas, CA...On Friday, January 11th, Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital put a name to its café: “Carmen’s”. This is the first time the hospital has named its café which is used primarily for preparing patient meals, but also serves the public and employees. meals and personality. The naming and recognition was kept secret until the announcement was made Friday. A neon sign was set in place and turned on during the ceremony. A cake with “Carmen’s” was included in the celebration attended by over 100 employees.
“What is a café without a name?” said Larry Cornish, V.P. of Facilities and Project Development during the announcement. “A name speaks to the cuisine and quality of the meals. It adds personality to what is otherwise just a building. And it speaks to the people who prepare the meals to our patients and care for their community”. Carmen, who was completely surprised by the recognition, could say little more than “thank you” between the tears of joy.
Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital is a not-for-profit, 48-bed general acute care hospital serving all of Calaveras County. Established in 1951 as Mark Twain District Hospital and centrally located in San Andreas, the hospital is partnered with Catholic Healthcare West to further strengthen this rural hospital to meet future community needs. The hospital is supported by 45 active physicians practicing in 24 specialties.
