Your Lost Cat or Dog May be Waiting for You at the Calaveras Animal Shelter ~ By Cynthia Pino, Calaveras Humane Society

San Andreas, C.A….Lost a pet? Don't assume your beloved friend is lost forever. The Animal Shelter at Calaveras Animal Services in San Andreas has several cats and dogs who were obviously someone's pet, but just strayed off their property...

In 2006 and 2007, we only had 11 cats each year who were redeemed by their owners. However, in 2006, 180 dogs were returned to their owners; and in 2007, more than 200 dogs got to go home to their families. I think that when a cat disappears, many cat owners assume it was taken by a predator, found a new home, or was hit by a car. That is not always the case.

We have several cats at the shelter right now who are obviously someone's pet. They have been cared for; some even have decorative or flea collars; and some have been altered or spayed. Unfortunately, we have so few cat owners come to the shelter to look for their missing cats and kittens. The cats and kittens just seem to be wondering how they found themselves in such an unfortunate circumstance. Being in a cage with bedding, food, and water is better than being cold and hungry, but it doesn't take the place of being reunited with their families.

Before you give up hope, please check to see if your lost cat is at the shelter.
