Prominent Murphys Resident Margot Marie (Thomson) Pratt Has Passed Away. (April 19, 1932 – September 11, 2008)

Murphys, CA...Margot Marie (Thomson) Pratt passed away peacefully on September 11, 2008 at home surrounded by her loving family after a lengthy illness. Margot was born on April 19, 1932 in Berkeley, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold (Tommy) and Margaret Thomson. Beloved wife of 56 years to John Pratt. Loving mother to Bill (Sherry), Terry (Mark), Steve (Laura) and Tom. Devoted Grandmother of 5; Rochelle, Casey, Shawna, Lindsey and Christopher. Survived by sister, Sue (Thomson) Roberts, sister-in-law Denise (Pratt) Garrett (Gerry) and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews...


Margot graduated from Piedmont High School in Piedmont, CA in 1950 where she met and later married her high school sweetheart, John. She attended University of California (Berkeley) and received an AA degree in English. Margot was actively involved in community service and in the Catholic church. She led the choir at St. Patrick's Church in Murphys for 9 years. Margot researched local history and created the Murphys Walking Tour. She was also a docent for the Gene Autry Museum in Los Angeles, CA. She served as a substitute elementary school teacher, religious school (CCD) teacher and was active in numerous community service organizations.

Margot was an accomplished athlete. She loved tennis, golf, hiking and skiing. Just two years ago, she had the experience of hiking to the top of Machu Picchu and cruising down the Amazon in Peru. Margot loved to travel and has seen many places throughout the world. Her favorite destinations were Hawaii and Italy.

Margot was an award-winning artist specializing in watercolor landscapes. She enjoyed gardening and entertaining family and friends. Everyone loved a “party at the Pratt's.”

Friends and family are invited to a rosary on Saturday 9/13/08 at 7:00 PM and memorial service on Monday 9/15/08 at 10:00 AM both at St. Patrick's Church 619 Sheep Ranch Rd. Murphys, CA., The family also plans to hold a celebration of her life at a later date with details to follow.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to VNA of the Mother Lode, 20100 Cedar Rd. Sonora, CA 95370.
