DOD Authorizes Support to Counter Drug Border Security Including Pedestrian Fence Funding

Washington, DC...Acting Secretary of Defense Patrick M. Shanahan authorized the commander of the U.S Army Corps of Engineers to begin planning and executing up to $1 billion in support to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Customs and Border Protection. These funds will be used to support DHS’s request to build 57 miles of 18-foot-high pedestrian fencing, constructing and improving roads, and installing lighting within the Yuma and El Paso Sectors of the border in support of the February 15 national emergency declaration on the southern border of the United States.

New York, NY....U.S. Attorney Announces The Arrest Of Michael Avenatti For Engaging In A Scheme To Extort A Public Company. Avenatti Is Alleged To Have Used Threats of Economic and Reputational Harm To Demand More Than $20 Million In Payments. Geoffrey S. Berman, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, and William F. Sweeney Jr., Assistant Director-in-Charge of the New York Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (“FBI”), announced the arrest today of MICHAEL AVENATTI on federal extortion and interstate threat charges. As alleged, AVENATTI, an attorney, attempted to extract more than $20 million in payments from a publicly traded company by threatening to use his ability to garner publicity to inflict substantial financial and reputational harm on the company if his demands were not met. AVENATTI was simultaneously arrested on separate charges brought by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California. AVENATTI will be presented today in Manhattan federal court before U.S. Magistrate Judge Katharine H. Parker.

Marijuana Grow and BHO Lab on Almond Dr. in Valley Springs Eradicated & Arrest Made

Valley Springs, CA...On 3-22-2019 members of the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Marijuana Enforcement Team served a search warrant for illegal marijuana cultivation at a residence on Almond Dr, Jenny Lind. This location was identified as having a marijuana cultivation operation. Investigators found an area inside of the residence that had been converted for the purposes of marijuana cultivation. A large green house was also located. Inside of a garage investigators found marijuana plants and a Butane Honey Oil (BHO) conversion lab. Deputies seized 463 marijuana plants, just over 174 pounds of processed marijuana, 14.6 ounces of concentrated marijuana, (2) rifle’s, (1) handgun and (1) shotgun. 43 year old Jason Martinez of Jenny Lind was arrested on scene and booked into the Calaveras County Jail.

Vote Yes on “Measure A” to Continue Great Service from EPFD

Arnold, CA...The Ebbetts Pass Fire District (EPFD) Board of Directors is sponsoring “Measure A,” which is a special tax measure that will fund the continued operation of fire, ambulance and paramedic services to the Upper Highway 4 Corridor. The Fire District serves community members who live in the 225-square-mile District along Highway 4 between Forest Meadows and Bear Valley. The EPFD Board of Directors put forth Measure A to address a $400,000 budget deficit the District is currently facing. If Measure A does not pass, fire, ambulance and paramedic services will have to be cut starting July 1, 2019. Eligible voters will receive ballots in the mail in early April and those ballots must be mailed to the Calaveras County Elections Office by May 7, 2019. In order to pass, Measure A must receive a two-thirds majority, meaning 66.67% of voters must vote “Yes”.

A break in the system will give way to mostly sunny skies today as the high could approach 42F and variable winds from the East in the am and shifting to the Southwest in the afternoon. Tonight, surface gradients will begin to tighten up so winds will begin to increase as the next wave of snow begins it’s journey to the Central Sierra. Monday day could see a few inches fall then Monday night 5-9″, Tuesday 5-9″, Tuesday night 12-18″ and another 17-23″ during the day Wednesday before tapering off. Unsettled snowy weather will remain in the area into Thursday at the current model runs. Conditions are amazing currently and with 465″ of snow so far this season we look to have awesome conditions well into spring. Our closing date is currently April 21st. Sacramento, CA... Building on lessons learned from past catastrophic wildfires, Governor Gavin Newsom today proclaimed a state of emergency throughout California ahead of the coming fire season. The Governor is directing his administration to immediately expedite forest management projects that will protect 200 of California’s most wildfire-vulnerable communities. Verbal Dispute at Laundromat Leads to Arrest

Sonora, CA...From the Sonora Police Dept..."On 3/20/19 around 7pm Sonora Police received a report at the Downtown Plaza Laundromat of 3 males in a verbal argument. When Officers arrived they contacted Kristopher Walters, 37 of Sonora, it was determined that Walters is on searchable county probation. A probation search was conducted, which resulted in locating a fixed blade knife in Walters backpack. Kristopher Walters was subsequently arrested and booked into Tuolumne County Jail for carrying a concealed knife.

Suspect Asking for "Suicide By Cop" Safely Taken Into Custody

Twain Harte, CA...From the Tuolumne Sheriff's Dept..."Yesterday afternoon, the High Risk Supervision Team conducted a probation compliance check at the home of 36-year-old Jeffrey Goldstein on Robin Rd. in Twain Harte. Goldstein is on felony probation and had four confirmed warrants for his arrest. Goldstein refused to come out of his residence and his girlfriend told deputies he had a knife. Goldstein eventually came out of the home and was safely taken into custody. A records check conducted on a blue Ford Expedition that was parked in his driveway, revealed it was stolen.
