On the Officer Involved Shooting of John James Corrigan ~ By Katie Greer |
Posted by: thepinetree on 07/09/2018 09:25 AM
|
Mountain Ranch, CA...This is regarding the officer involved shooting in Calaveras county on 7/5/18. I would like to share facts that the Sheriff's department left out of their statement and clear up some FALSE information they publicized to everyone: First I would like to publicly apologize to the officers involved for the position John put you in. I can not even imagine what you went and are going through. And your families. I would like to commend you for doing your job, as I respect your position and doing what you were trained to do in that situation.

Property Rights & Abuse Concerns about Chapter 8.06 Proposed Rewrite Tuesday ~ By Colleen Platt |
Posted by: thepinetree on 07/09/2018 06:48 PM
|
San Andreas, CA...Dear Calaveras County Board of Supervisors, Please seriously consider & question the proposed rewrite of county code Chapter 8.06 Property Maintenance & Code Enforcement, to be heard at your Board Meeting Tuesday. It sets off too many red flags. The public is legitimately upset & fearful about the expanded code enforcement powers, possibility of selective enforcement of county code, potential for abuse of power by county employees, likelihood of unknown & excessive fees and fines piling up for minor infractions and small unpermitted structures, lack of due process and threats to property rights in summary abatements and summary fines, and more.

Sacramento, CA...Americans Against Gun Violence extends heartfelt sympathy to the families, friends, and colleagues of the five people killed, including the newspaper editor, three journalists, and another staff member, in the mass shooting on June 28, 2018, at the office of the Capital Gazette in Annapolis, Maryland. Box Stores in Angels Camp! ~ Letter to the Editor by Gail & Ted Bunge |
Posted by: thepinetree on 06/27/2018 06:04 PM
|
Angels Camp, CA...Although we live outside of Angels Camp, for close to 40 years we have shopped along the Highway 4 corridor, including in Angels. Angels Camp City Council is considering a zoning change to allow Tractor Supply to build. When we hear people talk about wanting big box stores in our foothill communities, we remind them that most people move to the foothills to live in a rural area. If box stores are important to them, they can live in just about any other city in the country, where they can find all the big stores they want.

Farm Subsidies Make No Sense. By Congressman Tom McClintock |
Posted by: thepinetree on 06/26/2018 12:55 PM
|
Washington, DC...New Zealand is four times more dependent on agriculture than the United States, and it once maintained extensive farm subsidies. In 1984, it ended them. What happened? Farm productivity and earnings rose. The Federated Farmers of New Zealand fought just as vigorously as their American counterparts to preserve their subsidies. Yet in hindsight, the same group now says that its experience “thoroughly debunked the myth that the farming sector cannot prosper without government subsidies.” In fact, it thrives.

Angels Camp, CA...I’ll admit being concerned what will happen when Dennis Mills’ family, close friends, and ardent supporters discover he’s a pathological liar. There are so many lies in Mr. Mills’ statement it's hard to know where to start. Let's try the hilarious "Big Pot" accusation.

Vote for Measure A on June 5th ~ Florence Alberts |
Posted by: thepinetree on 05/24/2018 08:54 AM
|
San Andreas, CA....In 2003, I retired and became a volunteer at Mark Twain Medical Center. I have worked in several departments one or two days a week, six hours a day. On June 5, the voters of Calaveras County have a chance to help our hospital. Vote yes on Measure A. It’s a measure asking voters to approve a new lease between Mark Twain Medical Center and the Mark Twain Health Care District and renew the affiliation with Dignity Health. It does not raise taxes or have any impact on your tax bill. It does not give our hospital to Dignity Health.

Clyde Clapp, Against the Asphalt Plant & Against Pot ~ Bob Vera |
Posted by: thepinetree on 05/13/2018 09:41 AM
|
Rancho Calaveras, CA...I hope the people of District 5 will vote for Clyde Clapp for Supervisor. Clyde has proven himself with his dedication to his District and to the whole County. He was front and center standing up to fight the Asphalt Plant that they tried to shove down our throats. When he saw all of the criminals invading our County to grow Pot he decided to fight against it and he worked to change what the previous Board of Supervisors had created. In less than two years he gained the support to ban the Commercial Pot Grows.

An Endorsement of Pat Garrahan for Sheriff ~ John MacWillie, PhD |
Posted by: thepinetree on 05/11/2018 09:02 AM
|
Murphys, CA...It is the obligation of every government to provide for the public safety and security of its citizens. For local jurisdictions this responsibility includes the provision of law enforcement, fire protection, and health care. In many localities, such as Calaveras County, the only direct input the public has in how these services are delivered is limited to the election of a Sheriff to manage law enforcement.

ATT Stay Off My Phone! ~ Letter To The Editor by Bob Reagan |
Posted by: thepinetree on 05/09/2018 02:19 PM
|
Murphys, CA...Almost every evening at dinnertime we get an unsolicited call call identified as being from ATT. We have call blocking, but it doesn’t work. We have tried everything we can to stop these annoying calls to no avail. When we received a call today I decided to stay on the line and see if I could get some information. I will not bore you with the details, but after posing a number of leading questions this is what I learned.
