Merced, CA...In honor of the last week of Rail Safety Month, Caltrans is releasing behind-the-scenes footage of its track laying machine and the new innovative way crews are laying concrete ties to complete its rail projects saving the department time and money.
Caltrans Announces the Completion of the $14 Million Mokelumne River Bridge Project

San Joaquin County – Caltrans along with local residents and business owners are celebrating the completion of the Mokelumne River Bridge Project on State Route 12 (SR-12).This $14 million project replaced the existing concrete bridge deck, removed and replaced existing electrical components, and increased the vertical clearance of the control house. The bridge, constructed in 1942, is one of only 21 remaining swing-truss bridges in California.

Sacramento/San Joaquin County - The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform long-term, one-way traffic control via traffic signal on State Route (SR-12) at the Mokelumne River Bridge. One-way traffic control will be in effect beginning Monday, March 9, 2015, through Friday, May 29, 2015. Motorists should expect 15 minute delays. Alternate routes should be taken whenever possible...

Rail Road Flat, Ca... On June 21, 2014 a 1958 Ford Flatbed was disabled in the northbound lane of Ridge Road. A '97 Honda Civic was travelling northbound and did not see the Ford due to being blinded by the sun. The Honda collided with the Ford, causing injuries to the driver and to both passengers of the Honda....

Mokelumne Hill, Ca... On June 21st, 2014, a motorcyclist was headed northbound on Highway 49; while negotiating a curve, one of the foot pegs hit the ground, causing the bike to skid out from under the rider. The motorcycle then turned over and hit the guard rail. Luckily, the rider sustained only minor injuries...

Angels Camp, Ca...On June 20th, 2014, a '98 Mercury was travelling at an unsafe speed eastbound on Highway 4, near Bonanza Mine Rd, and lost control of it's travel trailer, causing it to fishtail and drift over the double yellow lines, ultimately striking a '97 Chevy. Both parties sustained minor injuries...

Sonora, Ca... On 6/5/14 at about 3:55 P.M. a Honda motorcycle was travelling northbound on highway 49, north of Fifth Avenue, at approximately 40 mph. The Honda was directly following a Chevy pick-up, and traffic came to a stop. The Honda was unable to stop before colliding with the back of the Chevy, thus ejecting the motorcyclist. Luckily, the motorcyclist sustained minor injuries, and was transported to Sonora Regional for a broken wrist...

Sacramento, Ca – Senator Ted Gaines (R-Roseville) today announced that he and Senate President pro Tem Darrell Steinberg (D-Sacramento) have introduced Senate Bill 1309, a bi-partisan bill that would entice Tesla Motors Inc. to build a large-scale battery factory in California. “Tesla is about to build a $5 billion factory and create 6,500 jobs somewhere in this country. We can and should do everything humanly possible to bring those jobs to California,” said Senator Gaines. Senate Bill 1309 declares the legislature’s intent to utilize financial incentives, changes to regulatory and environmental processes, and other possible tools to expedite construction in California. “Everything is on the table – tax credits, investment credits, hiring credits. We need to show Tesla that we’ll cut through the red tape that frustrates companies in this state and prove that California is open for business,” said Senator Gaines. “There’s no excuse. I call on my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to join Senator Steinberg and me in getting this done immediately.”...
