Sacramento, CA...With fewer high school students across the country filing for federal student aid so far this year, California is promoting a statewide campaign to mobilize local partners and engage high school seniors in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the California Dream Act Application (CADAA).

San Andreas, CA...On Tuesday, May 7, 2024, Calaveras County Department of Public Works will be closing two bridges to accommodate Caltrans bridge inspection operations. Middle Bar Bridge (Gwin Mine Road and Middle Bar Road) will be closed to traffic from 9 am to 12:30 pm, and Calaveritas Bridge (Calaveritas Road) will be closed from 1 pm to 4 pm. Due to the narrowness of the bridges Public Works requests that the traveling public uses alternate routes during the inspection operations. Emergency personnel and vehicles will be given access to the work zone.

Groveland, CA...Fire crews with the Stanislaus National Forest’s Groveland Ranger District began will begin broadcast/understory burning in the area of China Ridge, as soon as next week. Located adjacent to the Groveland Ranger District office and following China Ridge south to Greeley Hill Road approximately 4 miles northeast of Greeley Hill. The majority of the underburn is adjacent to Smith Station Rd, Greeley Hill Rd and Forest Road 2S05.

Attorney General Bonta, Governor Newsom, and CARB Lead Multistate Coalition to Defend U.S. EPA’s Final Rule for Light-Duty Vehicle Emission Standards

Oakland, CA...On behalf of California and leading a multistate coalition of 23 attorneys general and four cities, California Attorney General Rob Bonta, Governor Gavin Newsom, and the California Air Resources Board (CARB) filed a motion to intervene in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit to help defend the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s final rule for light- and medium-duty vehicles emissions standards for model years 2027-2032 (Final Rule). The Final Rule sets stricter tailpipe emissions standards for light- and medium-duty vehicles for harmful air pollutants, including greenhouse gases (GHG), nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter. Currently, the rule is being challenged by 25 Republican-led states seeking to curb the agency’s efforts to reduce emissions from the transportation sector.

Modesto, CA...California will soon have its first new state park since 2014. On Earth Day, Governor Gavin Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom helped dedicate the new state park, Dos Rios, just 8 miles west of Modesto in the Central Valley. The new state park is set to open on June 12, which coincides with the Third Annual State Parks Week.
