Sierra Invitational Track Meet Results~By Rod Weathers

Angels Camp, CA...We have the Sierra Invitational track meet results. "We had a good showing for the first meet of the year. Tuck was 2nd overall in Shot Put and we think may have now worked his way onto the record board at Bret Harte as his coach thought he may be 3rd all time best at Shot at Bret Harte. He is 1 1/2ft away from the varsity Shot record set back in '79 by Kurt Hecker at 50'-5" . Alex Ballard for the girls varsity placed 3rd in shot and disc. Varsity girls distance medley placed 2nd!!!! It was nice to see how well Bret Harte did as a team, boys varsity 13th, girls varsity 6th!!! JV girls at 16th." For full results..

Congrats to Justice Rasmussen on Qualifying for the Junior Olympics!

Bear Valley, CA...Congratulations are in order for local resident, Justice Rasmussen, of the Bear Valley Race Team, for qualifying for the Junior Olympics coming up in Basin, ID. With the conclusion of the final Junior Olympics qualifier at Squaw Valley over the weekend, Justice amassed enough points to join the other Top 27 racers in Far West on March 21st-24th. Zac Comstock also of the Bear Valley Race Team, is the first alternate should any of the other racers decline to participate. Complete JO qualifier scoring can be found at...

Reading Rewards Program For Kids Kindergarten through 6th Grade Deadline April 15th

Calaveras County, CA...The theme of the Calaveras County Fair & Frog Jumping Jubilee is "Heard it Through the Bovine." Through the theme, the fair is celebrating reading. To this end, the fair is rewarding students for reading. Young students will get credit for having a parent, grandparent or friend read to them; older students must do independent reading. The program began on March 1st and will end April 15th, 2008. The completed reading log is to be turned into the fair grounds office. Students just record.....

Calaveras County, CA...The Junior Miss Calaveras Pageant and Junior Frog Jump will be held concurrently on Saturday, May 10 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Altaville Melones Fire Department in Angels Camp. Angels Camp, CA….Six teams from the tennis league, including Bret Harte, Calaveras, Amador, Linden, Summerville, and Argonaut participated in the second annual pre-season kick off tournament this weekend. The purpose of this tournament is to meet everyone in league and to scope out possible competition….

Angels Camp, CA...We would like to thank the all of you who voted and commented in our recent "What do you think of Walmart Approaching Angels Camp?" poll! There were some great and well reasoned comments on both sides of the issue. With the county's coffers a bit lean at the moment we will probably see an increasing amount discussion on the affect of "Sales Tax Leakage" on our local economy. It seems everyone agrees we need a more diverse local economy the rub is just how to get there without hurting what a special place Calaveras County is. We have enclosed the poll results to ensure some of the great comments don't get lost. Thanks Again!!!

Angels Camp, CA....Ryan McQuoid of Bret Harte High School wins the automotive portion of the area wide occupational Olympics held Thursday March 6, 2008 at Columbia College. 3 local schools participated. Students were tested on knowledge, and ability. Ryan takes home $75 as the fist place cash prize!! Bret Harte’s automotive program is known as one of the best in the state- led by Mr. Overton.
