Local Teens Donate To Help Butte Fire Survivors |

Mountain Ranch, CA...Almost $1,000 was raised by three area high school drama students recently who wanted to help survivors of the Butte Fire. “This is a wonderful, compassionate gesture,” said Allen Sender, Chairman of Calaveras Recovers, as he accepted the check on behalf of the all-volunteer group. Calaveras Public Health Issues Heat Advisory To Residents |

San Andreas, CA...Calaveras County Public Health Services has issued a heat advisory for the County. We urge the public to act now to prevent heat-related illness. Temperatures of 100 degrees or more are expected over the next several days. Dr. Kelaita, County Health Officer, stated, "Taking action now can prevent the possibility of heat-related illness. Some health conditions such as obesity, fever, dehydration, heart disease, poor circulation, sunburn and drug/alcohol use can make it harder for the body to stay cool in hot weather" Additional information is below...

Valley Springs & Angels Camp, CA...Over the weekend much was said on social media regarding the removal of the stored asphalt plant at the Hogan Quarry. At this time we are able to share the evolution of this project. The issues regarding the Asphalt Plant are complex and confusing. As county supervisors we have not been able to comment publicly up to this point or correct the misinformation being exchanged on social media and in the community for reasons related to county liability as well as possible legal issues.

Leona M. "Nonie" Winchell 1929 - 2016 |

San Andreas, CA...Leona M. "Nonie" Winchell was born on November 2, 1929 and passed away unexpectedly on June 14th, 2016. Nonie was the daughter of Dean and Verna James and was a longtime resident of Calaveras County. Nonie was preceded in death by her husband Herman Winchell, brother Grant Davis, sisters Jean Moreland and Margery Mathews. She is survived by her daughter Deborah and son-in-law Steven Stokes, nieces, nephews, cousins, many friends, and her cats Porker and Blackie.

Live Fire Training Cancelled |

San Andreas, CA...The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) is cancelling the live fire training, which was scheduled to begin tomorrow, June 21st and run through Thursday June 24th at the Sardella Ranch.

Calaveras Supervisors Meeting Tomorrow Will Focus On Cannabis & Cannabis Taxation (Update...Urgency Ordinance Renewed Until Feb, 2017, Tax Heading To Ballot) |

San Andreas, CA...The Board of Supervisors agenda for June 21, 2016 is enclosed. Pursuant to Gov. Code 65858, Extend the Applicability of Chapter 17.95 of the Calaveras County Code, an Urgency Ordinance Regulating Medical Cannabis Cultivation and Commerce, for a Period Not to Exceed Ten Months and Fifteen Days. Introduce and waive reading of an Ordinance submitting to the vote of the electorate a Measure to impose a commercial cannabis tax on Outdoor/Mixed Light Cultivation at the rate of $2.00 per square foot of canopy area until the Department of Food and Agriculture has established and implemented a track and trace program under Business and Professions Code section 19335 et seq., at which time the tax rate shall be: $45.00 per pound of dry weight flower and bud and $10.00 per pound of dry weight leaves and trim; and a commercial cannabis tax on Indoor Cultivation at the rate of $5.00 per square foot of canopy area until the Department of Food and Agriculture has established and implemented a track and trace program under Business and Professions Code section 19335 et seq., at which time the tax rate shall be $70.00 per pound of dry weight flower and bud and $15.00 per pound of dry weight leaves and trim; and a gross proceeds tax of seven percent (7%) on the manufacturing of cultivated cannabis; and a gross proceeds tax of seven percent (7%) on retail medicinal or legal cannabis storefronts, collectives, and dispensaries, for general governmental purposes. Cannabis Cultivation Registration Deadline Looming. Appointments May Be Needed! |

San Andreas, CA...The deadline to submit a registration form in compliance with Chapter 17.95 of the Calaveras County Code regulating medical cannabis cultivation and commerce is 4:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 30, 2016. Applications will not be accepted after that time. Applications missing any mandatory submittal documentation will not be accepted. Registration forms and mandatory submittal requirements can be obtained in the Planning Department or downloaded off of the County website.

Mountain Ranch, CA...Timothy John Schlenz was born on June 6th 1962 and passed away on June 7 2016 after a battle with alcoholism. Tim was living in San Andreas, CA at the time of death, but spent the majority of his life in Mountain Ranch, CA. Tim was born and raised in Sunnyvale, CA to Tony and Adele Schlenz. From a young age, Calaveras County was a huge part of his life, where he would go up to his family’s cabin in Columbia. Tim graduated from Sunnyvale High School and Columbia Community College, and then began to build his house and his life in Mountain Ranch... |

Butte Fire Recovery Hazard Tree Removal Along Public Roadways |

San Andreas, CA...The Butte Fire which started on September 9, 2015 not only destroyed 549 homes and 368 outbuildings, it also damaged or destroyed over 5800 trees that now pose a danger to the traveling public. With the Debris Removal Program now complete, Calaveras County will begin the next phase of clean up. This will include identifying, removing, and mitigating hazardous trees along County maintained public roads within the Butte fire burn area. The trees that will be assessed are located within the County right-of-way (R/W) or on adjacent private property
