Highway 108 Snowmobile Access to Temporarily Close |

Sonora, CA…The Forest Service today announced that beginning March 24th through March 28, CalTrans will start its normal seasonal snow plowing on Highway 108. Buring the time required for this snow plowing operation, Highway 108 will be temporarily closed to all vehicles, including snowmobiles, from the Sno-Park gate to Sonora Pass. Once the road is open to Eagle Meadow Road (5N01), snowmobiles will be able to access riding opportunities into the Eagle Meadow area, while snow conditions allow. Highway 108.... |

Personal-Use Fuelwood Season to Begin |

Sonora, CA...The Forest Service today announced that starting Wednesday, March 26, Personal Use Fuelwood Permits will be available for purchase at Stanislaus National Forest offices. Fuelwood season officially begins Tuesday, April 1 and will continue to approximately November 30, depending on weather and road conditions.....

North Beardsley Prescribed Burn to Begin on Tuesday March 25th |

On March 25, 2008 the Summit Ranger District, Stanislaus National Forest,will begin prescribed burning on sections of the 1,575 acre North Beardsley Underburn project, located approximately 5 miles northwest of Strawberry, along Forest Service road 5N02. The planned ignition is expected to last two days, with approximately 300 acres ignited daily, depending on conditions. Smoke will be visible in the area, and from Highway 108, with.....

Veterans and Citizens Turn Out to Support Our Troops |

Angels Camp, CA....Veterans and Citizens from throughout Calaveras County showed their support for ur troops today as this is the 5 year Anniversary of the Iraq War. The decorated the corner of Murphys Grade Road and Hwy 49 with flags, banners and signs asking people to "honk in support of our troops." The sounds of horns filled the air for a god portion of the day. When we stopped by we spoke with Suzette Glanville, one of the the supporters, who has a son was in the first wave to enter Baghdad and is currently serving in the Middle East right now....

Vallecito, CA...CHP is reporting a minor injury Collision at Parrots Ferry Road just South of Hwy 4. A 61 year old Murphys man was traveling northbound on Parrots Ferry and was attempting to negotiate a turn, due to his state of intoxication his car drifted into the southbound lane and nearly struck an oncoming car. He then lost complete control...

Juvenile Apprehended in West Point Robbery |

West Point, CA... Detectives have arrested a 15 year old male they believe is responsible for the strong armed robbery of a West Point shop owner Monday afternoon. Detectives received information from a source indicating the juvenile was responsible for the robbery. Detectives interviewed the juvenile who admitted to the crime. During the course of the investigation detectives searched several locations in the West Point area but were unable to recover any of the stolen property.....

Hathaway Pines, CA....An Arnold woman was flown to Modesto Memorial following a solo vehicle accident on Saturday morning suffering moderate injuries with the passenger taken to Mark Twain St. Josephs Hospital with minor injuries. See full CHP release enclosed....

Vallecito Youth Injured in Motorcycle Accident |

A Vallecito youth suffered moderate injuries on Sunday, March 16th. Apparently a young man was riding his off road motorcyle on Main Street in San Andreas when he failed to see the vehicle in front of him getting ready to make a right hand turn. For some reason he then proceeded to pass the vehicle on the right and the left side of the motorcycles handle bar struck the right front of the vehicle. The impact knocked the motorcycle to the roadway when the youth was then ejected. See full CHP release enclosed......
