Spellman Passed Over For Board Chair...Supervisor Ponte is 2014 Chair & Supervisor Edson is Vice Chair

San Andreas, CA...In a breach of normal tradition, Supervisor Darren Spellman, the 2013 Vice-Chair was passed over for ascension to the 2014 Board Chair position. Edson, Wright & Ponte elevated Supervisor Ponte to the position as the 2014 Board Chair, while Supervisor Merita Callaway voted against and Spellman abstained. Today's meeting had some awkward moments before the eventual outcome. With this drama filled start, and 2014 being an election year for two seats on the board the Board Chambers will no doubt become the center of the county's attention once again as the year progresses. Throw in budget problems and odds are some of the 2014 meetings may be local, political theater at a very intense level. The games have commenced...

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Board of Supervisors has been sworn in and is ready to serve. With three new members it will offer a potentially revised and changed course for the county. District Three Supervisor Merita Callaway was selected to be Board Chair for 2013 and District 5 Supervosr Darren Spellman is Vice-Chair. The first item on the agenda was to go into closed session to select and select an interim CAO...John Blacklock was selected. We will be setting up an interview with him so you can get acquainted with him. The county's business will commence for the year. Incoming District Two Supervisor Chris Wright was sworn in just before the meeting started....

San Andreas, CA...It will be a busy meeting as 3 new board members get seated and jockey for position on committees etc. There will be a reception at 8am for the public and county employees to welcome the new board. They wil then move to a closed session to select an interim CAO while the search goes on to permanently fill Retiring CAO Boyce's position. It will be the start of a new era in Calaveras County Government. The agenda is enclosed...

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Board of Supervisors approved the FY 2012/13 Adopted Budget this week allocating more financial resources to the Sheriff’s Office, Animal Services, the Assessor, and Planning, among others. The total county budget is $137,623,989 which is ($17,486,526) or (11%) lower than the FY 2011/12 Final Budget of $155,110,515. “The FY 2012/13 Adopted Budget is balanced and reflects a fiscally conservative spending plan that prioritizes public safety as the number one concern,” said Gary Tofanelli, Chair, Calaveras County Board of Supervisors...

Valley Springs, CA...Meet Your Candidates - The Chamber of Commerce held the first of two Candidates Forums for the Supervisor Candidates for District 1and 2. District 1: Incumbent Gary Tofanelli and Candidate Cliff Edson answered questions from the public on Wednesday, September 19th at the Veterans Hall in Valley Springs.
