Independence Road To Reopen to Local & Emergency Traffic on April 27th. |

Rail Road Flat, CA...Update on 2019 Winter Storms Disaster Independence Road Project. Calaveras County Department of Public Works has determined that Independence Road will be re-opened to local traffic and emergency vehicles beginning on Saturday, April 27, 2019, barring any unforeseen circumstances. Please be advised that some areas of Independence Road will only have access for one-way traffic and Public Works requests that drivers reduce their speed and use caution throughout the area.

Rail Road Flat, CA...Mary was born in Copper Lake, Nova Scotia, near Loch Haber and Antigonish, to the late Jessie (Sears) and James MacPherson. She was pre-deceased by brother John William Bernard MacPherson, close cousins John Lawrence, Andy, Herb, George & Neal Sears, step-brother Richard Brine, brother-& sister-in-law Eddie & Jackie Taylor, sister-and brother-in-law Eva & Mark Polz, and beloved husband of over 60 years, Tommy Taylor.

Arnold, CA....PG&E Crews who were working out in wet freezing conditions brought 6,833 customers back online overnight. With clear weather on tap for today the bulk of the outages are expected to be dealt with today in Amador, Alpine, Calaveras & Tuolumne Counties...

West Point, CA...Lumberjack Day takes place on the first Saturday in October and celebrates the history and traditions of the Calaveras County lumber industry. Lumberjack Day includes a parade and car show, vendors, lumberjack competitions including big timbers, chainsaws, and axes! There are activities for the kids and food and fun for the whole family!

West Point, CA..On September 19, 2018 members of the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Marijuana Enforcement Team served a search warrant for illegal marijuana cultivation at an address on Acorn Way in West Point. Several outbuildings at this property near the main residence had been converted for marijuana processing/drying and several bunkhouse living quarters had been constructed. 225 large marijuana plants were eradicated from the site.

San Andreas, CA...Thirty artists in nineteen locations throughout Calaveras County will open their homes and studios and display their artwork during the Calaveras County Arts Council Artists Studio Tour on September 22-23. The self-guided tour, free and open to the public, is an opportunity to meet the artists face-to-face, learn about their artwork, and discover treasures you will want to take home. Tour maps are available at businesses and public places throughout the county, as well as from the Arts Council. Call 209/754-1774 for more information, or go online at calaverasarts.org.

The self-guided tour, free and open to the public, is an opportunity to meet the artists face-to-face, learn about their artwork, and discover treasures you will want to take home. Tour maps are available at businesses and public places throughout the county, as well as from the Arts Council. Call 209/754-1774 for more information, or go online at calaverasarts.org. There will be a special preview reception for Artists Studio Tour at the Gallery store at 22 N. Main Street in San Andreas on September 15, from 3 to 5 p.m. A general membership meeting will be held for the public as well. Artworks by the artists on the Artists Studio Tour will be on exhibit and there will be light refreshments; everyone is invited.
The kinetic and motorized sculptures by Vicki Burnham Wilson are a terrific addition to the gardens, gypsy wagons and blacksmithing at Michel Olson’s studio off Appaloosa Drive between Angels Camp and Copperopolis.
Ryan Anderson brings back the romantic art of vintage letterpress printing at his studio on French Gulch Road.
Sharon Strong’s masks (Pictured: Maori) are powerful pieces of art that remind us of our own spirits.
Shay Baker fills her Sheep Ranch studio with simple designs full of fun and fancy.

Marijuana Eradication in Railroad Flat, 1,309 Plants & 171.56 Lbs of Marijuana |

Rail Road Flat, CA...On 6-13-18 members of the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Marijuana Enforcement Team served a search warrant for illegal marijuana/cannabis cultivation at an address in the 2000 block of Mason Road, Railroad Flat. This site was previously registered as a commercial medical cannabis cultivation site. Deputies seized 1,309 marijuana plants, 171.56 pounds of processed marijuana and issued three citations for the three subjects located on the property at the time of the search warrant.
