" Fishtank Ensemble" June 16, Copperopolis Town Square

Copperopolis, CA....Back by popular demand because of the earth shattering, deafening applause at Music in the Parks 2009 finale, Fishtank Ensemble opens Calaveras Arts Council’s free summer music series in Copperopolis Town Square on June 16 at 6:30p – 8:00p. The LA Weekly calls them “cross pollinated gypsy music….one of the most thrilling young acts on the planet.” Starting at 6:30 pm in Copperopolis, Town Square, this unique group will show off its two explosive violins, the world's best slap bass player, musical saw, flamenco and gypsy jazz guitar, trombone, opera, jazz and gypsy vocals, accordion and one little banjolele. Tackling everything from French hot jazz to wild Serbian and Transylvanian gypsy anthems, Flamenco, and oddball originals, Fishtank Ensemble is a not to be missed event for world music lovers...and everyone will love this intoxicating mix of music....

Copperopolis, CA....Local author and Bret Harte freshman, Dakota Morlan, will be signing copies of her book Unseen: A Collection of Poetry during the Copperopolis 150-year Celebration. The book-signing will take place in front of the Union Mine Country Store in Copperopolis on June 5th, from 12:30-2:30 p.m., right after the parade.

Riding Lawn Mower Cause of 1 Acre Grass Fire in Copperopolis

Copperopolis, CA...CAL Fire is stating a riding lawn mower is the cause of a 1 acre grass fire on Tuesday, May 25th. The fire was located at 2993 Cheyenne Road. CAL FIRE UNITS RESPONDING: COPPEROPOLIS: ENGINE 4462; LOCAL UNITS RESPONDING: COPPEROPOLIS FIRE: CHIEF 230, MEDIC ENGINE 231, 238, PREVENTION 230. There were no injuries and $200 in damages. CAL Fire report enclosed...

In the fast and frenzied world of political correctness some of our country’s more traditional holidays seem to have become glossed over with the simple promise and expectation of a paid day off, block parties, and fun in the sun. Sometimes the true meaning of the holiday itself seems to get lost amid all the activity. Out here in the country we have not forgotten what Memorial Day stands for. It’s not just another paid holiday, another day to bar-b-que, and play in the sun. It’s a day to remember.....

Impromptu Car Show in Copperopolis~by Charity Maness

Copperopolis was privy to a wonderful impromtu car show Saturday afternoon as a collection of antique and collector cars stopped at Town Square for a quick ice cream at Cruiser’s for some, coffee at Snap’s for those driving convertibles. What started out, ten years ago, as a few friends that loved to drive the country roads in their beautiful cars has become an annual event that seems to have gathered quite a following. The eclectic collection of new and old, sport and family use autos mirrored the diverse personalities of the drivers. The similarity among them all…love of cars and the open road. One gentleman proudly wore a sweatshirt emblazoned with the saying “I play with cars.” It doesn’t get any clearer than that....

Copperopolis, CA....In typical Copperopolis Fire District fashion, the department welcomed their newest members of their volunteer force with celebration; a bar-b-que for the newest member of their team, friends and family. Five firefighters for Copperopolis Fire District completed the County Volunteer Fire Academy which lasted three months; 2 days per week. The academy was hosted by multiple fire departments covering almost every aspect of firefighting. ...

Copperopolis Cal Fire Station Is Open~by Charity Maness

ICopperopolis, CA....It’s that time of year; time to get your burn permit. Effective Saturday, May 1st burn permits were required within the CAL Fire Tuolumne-Calaveras jurisdiction. The Cal Fire station firefighters, who manned the Copperopolis station on Monday, will patiently walk you through the rules of burning and issue you a burn permit. Permits can be issued Monday-Friday during regular business hours. Burning will only be allowed on permissive burn days....

Artist Paints Saddle Creek Views at Galerie Copper Saturday

Sonora Artist Robin Bowes will be painting from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon (May 22) at Town Hall Arts, 145 Stone St., under the clock, Copperopolis Town Square. He plans to do a series of paintings of the 3-par holes of Saddle Creek Golf Course, one of which he will be teaching in his June Thursday morning beginning to intermediate oil classes at Galerie Copper. Robin and Oakdale's Ken McBride are featured artists for June at Galerie Copper at Town Hall Arts. Come out and watch Robin paint Saturday afternoon and sign up to learn to paint in water-soluble oils!
