Valley Springs, CA...On Satruday morning Mark Twain Medical Center held their Summer Health Fair in Valley. Community Heath industry booths and Mark Twain Medical Center and Family Medical Center staff were on hand for free and low cost health screenings and more. Also there were Mark Twain Cancer Center's Michael Helwig the Registered Dietitian and Director Debbie Peterson. They are striving for the best in integrated cancer care close to home.

Murphys Mom Undergoing Heart Transplant Surgery Right Now

Stanford Medical Center, CA...Murphys resident Brandi Shipman Clark is under the knife at this time getting a heart transplant. Last fall she contracted an infection that attacked her heart. She went from being a hard working women and mother to being on the transplant list. Her transplant was scheduled to begin at midnight tonight....

San Andreas, CA....Temperatures are expected to hit the century mark in the foothills this weekend and through early next week. Dr. Dean Kelaita, County Health Officer, urges residents to prevent heat-related illnesses by being aware of the dangers and taking action. Infants, children and the elderly are at higher risk of heat illness. Other persons at higher risk of heat illness have health conditions such as obesity, fever, dehydration, heart disease, poor circulation, or misuse of drugs or Temperatures are expected to hit the century mark in the foothills this weekend and through early next week. Red Cross Urges Safety this Summer as Temperatures Rise

Sacramento, CA... Summer is here, bringing with it dangerous excessive heat. The American Red Cross has steps people can follow to stay safe as the temperatures soar.
“Excessive heat can be deadly; it has caused more deaths in recent years than all other weather events,” said Kathleen Weis, Interim CEO for the Red Cross Capital Region Chapter. “We want everyone to stay safe during the hot weather and have some reminders for them to follow when the weather is hot and humid.”

Bear Valley resident Roger Test saved by first responders ~From Allen Test

Bear Valley, CA...Heartfelt thanks to the paramedics and first responders who received a 911 call in the middle of the night last week to the residence of Roger Test, age 67, a long time resident of Bear Valley. Roger had fallen during the previous night and broke several ribs. Not realizing how serious the injury was, he took some anti-inflammatories and went back to bed. In fact, a broken rib had caused a puncture to one of his lungs and resulted in a medical condition called a "pneumothorax". As time went by, his lungs began to leak air into his body...
Mark Twain Medical Center Now Offers Comfort Kits to All Overnight Patients

San Andreas, CA...Mark Twain Medical Center [MTMC] announced today that all overnight patients will now receive comfort kits as part of a commitment to partner with patients and improve their experience. The kits are designed to offer specific amenities that can help patients feel more comfortable and assist them in interacting more proactively with their caregivers. The hospital will offer both “Quiet Kits” and “Relax and Refresh Kits” to all overnight patients. The Quiet Kits contain items such as ear plugs, an eye mask, a “Voices Down Please” door hanger, lip balm, and Sudoku and crossword puzzle books. A “Questions for My Doctor” booklet and pencil are also included to help patients communicate their questions and concerns to their care team...

Angels Camp, CA... Gracing our Frogtown camping area are the riders of the LIVESTRONG Texas 4000, fighting cancer every mile. This team of young college age bicycle riders are on their way to Anchorage, Alaska. They came through Yosemite today and with a 6 a.m. wakeup call they will be headed North to Alaska in the morning.
