David and Sally not only feature our area in their latest project the award winning Film and TV industry veterans now call Arnold home and they are moving their production company Backcountry Pictures to Murphys. Mind Matters Receives $3,500 Grant From Calaveras Community Foundation

Murphys, CA...Mind Matters, the Murphys based non-profit treatment center devoted to addressing the many needs of patients and families affected by Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Learning Disabilities, has received a $3,500 grant from the Calaveras Community Foundation. The money will be used to support the center’s Social Thinking program. The ability to understand and interact with other people, whether at family gatherings, at school, or in the workplace, is taken for granted by most people. However, this is foreign territory for those who are autistic and many who suffer from attention deficit disorder....

Angels Camp, CA...How do you celebrate the legacy of a man who was part of Mother Lode history and Mother Lode history was part of him? This was the question that faced Calaveras Coins and Collectibles matriarch Merinna May-Wesely after the sudden passing of her beloved husband Howard Wesely in January. Nearly 20 years after the opening of internationally recognized coin shop at its location on the historic end of Angels Camp the future of the business was uncertain. However the outpouring of community support was a motivating factor in the decision for Merinna and her son Scott to continue the family run business that has been a mainstay in the historic district of the city of Angels. A common statement among fellow merchants was that “Howard helped keep everyone honest.”...

Washington, DC...Information received since the Federal Open Market Committee met in August suggests that economic activity has continued to expand at a moderate pace in recent months. Growth in employment has been slow, and the unemployment rate remains elevated. Household spending has continued to advance, but growth in business fixed investment appears to have slowed. The housing sector has shown some further signs of improvement, albeit from a depressed level. Inflation has been subdued, although the prices of some key commodities have increased recently. Longer-term inflation expectations have remained stable...

Bret Harte Celebrity Waiter Dinner Raises Thousands for Academic Achievement

Angels Camp, CA...Camps restaurant in Angels Camp provided an elegant setting for the second annual Bret Harte High School Celebrity Waiter Dinner in Support of Academic Achievement. The event, held Saturday, September 8th, pitted local "celebrities" in a no-holds barred competition for gratuities and contributions to determine the "Most Appreciated Waiter" for 2012-2013. In the end, Debbie Ponte emerged victorious, collecting more than $1200.00 in tips from the guests at her table. A very close second place finish was shared by David Brady, Bret Harte Spanish teacher, and the team of Holly Whittle and Monica Parker, who garnered over $1000.00 during the evening....
