Bear Valley, CA...A Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect through 10am tomorrow morning. Following is the NWS forecast for the next week. This Afternoon Snow showers likely, mainly after 1pm. Cloudy, with a temperature falling to around 28 by 5pm. South southwest wind 14 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. Tonight Snow showers. Low around 14. South southwest wind 8 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible...

Marshall Tragedy Update....Autopsies will Be Conducted Tomorrow

Murphys, CA....We just checked in with the Calaveras County Coroners Office and the Autopsies on members of the Marshall Family will be performed tomorrow. We know many of you grieve in different ways. Some need information and some would rather not know. Our plan is to post additional information when the autopsies are completed and then not report on the actual incident after that. That way if you need to know what happened to your friends it will be available to view or not view. As a local news outlet stories like this one affect all of us. None of us wanted to believe something like this could happen here. Unfortunately it did and our community will no-doubt be an example of how small communities rally around the hurt and broken, mend their wounds and carry on...
Murphys Man Shoots Children, then Himself in a Murder-Suicide

Murphys, CA...A Murphys man identified as Phillip Marshall (54) took the life of his two juvenile children before taking his own life in an apparent murder-suicide. On February 2, 2013 at 3:10 pm Calaveras Sheriff’s deputies were called to a residence on the 1200 block of Sandalwood Drive in the Forest Meadows subdivision, Murphys, for a suspicious circumstance/welfare check. The reporting parties, who are friends of the two victims, told investigators that they had not heard from the victims since Thursday, January 31, 2013. On February 2nd they went to the Marshall’s family residence looking for the victims. While at the front door of the house they were able to see inside and saw Phillip Marshall lying on the floor in a pool of blood. They called the sheriff’s office to report what they saw...

Murphys, Ca -- The First Congregational Church sanctuary will be open on Monday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. for members of the local community who would like an opportunity for mourning, prayer or meditation in view of the tragic loss of life in the community this past week. The church is part of the United Church of Christ. It is located at the corner of Algiers and Church Streets, one block uphill from Main Street, and has served the Murphys area for 150 years.

Angels Camp, CA...The Calaveras Visitors Bureau (CVB) recently announced that it will provide $2,000 in scholarships this year to area high school students as part of its new Travel Writing Scholarship program. Aimed at encouraging interest in tourism marketing, the first-ever CVB Travel Writing Scholarship, challenges local students to create a 400-750 word blog post, with photos, to entice visitors to the area.
