Hathaway Pines, CA...Owner Rolin Crawford is adding 60, yes that's right 60 new storage units at his Pac Rat Self Storage yard along Hwy 4. It's great to see local business people investing in their community. The units will be opening soon...

Pioneer School House Lecture Series Fill The Coffers ~By John Hamilton |

Douglas Flat, CA...The great lecture series on local history and the people who made raised over $3,000 for the operations of the Douglas Flat Community Center and Pioneer School House. We stopped by last week for final evening for this year when the subject was Historic Families and Ranchers in the area. Bonnie Miller and Bardon Stevenot were some of the speakers. So make plans next year to attend this great lecture series and help raise funds to keep one of our local treasures running for another year...

Calaveras County, CA.....Twenty-five pounds of wine grapes freshly picked from the vineyard, a half wine barrel fitted with a spout, a partner and you. It’s Calaveras Grape Stomp time, celebrating its 18th anniversary Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the historic Gold Rush town of Murphys, California, and hosted by the Calaveras Winegrape Alliance......

Three officers were chosen to be the first K-9 unit of the Antioch, California police department in November of 1964. Myself, Lew Pengilly and Jim Knowles were picked for the job. We traveled to North Highlands near Sacramento in our own separate vehicles to pick up our dogs at our trainer's home on November 12, 1964...

Murphys, CA....In 1993, Gail and John Kautz decided to stage an automotive concours d’elegance at their winery near Murphys, California. The Kautzes, being farmers and vintners, suggested that proceeds from the concours benefit young people involved in agriculture, notably 4-H Clubs, Future Farmers of America and the California State Fair Scholarship Fund....

First Congregational Church to Honor 9/11 |

On Sunday, September 11, during and after the 10 a.m. worship service, the First Congregational Church of Murphys will focus on our response as a faith community to the tenth anniversary of the attacks on 9/11/01. While acknowledging the impact of that event, we also will celebrate three new beginnings: our Rally Day, which marks the start of another Sunday School year; our Choir returning from its summer break; and the commissioning of the Pastor Search Committee.....

Big Labor Day Weekend Planned at Cactus Jack's Dawghouse |

Murphys, CA...Cactus Jack's Dawghouse will have a full schedule of events this weekend starting with Plan B on Friday Night from 9pm - 1:30am. On Saturday Night their will be a DJ and Dancing from 9pm to 1:30am. They always have music during the weekends and lots of stuff coming up for the post season of MLB and of course lot's of Football Season Events. They also serve food until 1:45am on Friday and Saturday Nights!!

Murphys, CA , CA....The Kitchen at Newsome-Harlow is now open for dinner. The Kitchen has been serving lunches since June and is now serving dinners 6 nights a week. It is located adjacent to the Newsome-Harlow Tasting Lounge at 403 Main Street, downtown Murphys. The Kitchen at Newsome-Harlow is a natural extension of the food and wine experience owners Scott and Melanie Klann have been creating in their tasting room and at private events for the past 20 years. Lunch is served 11:30 – 3, Dinner 5 – 9, and Apps and Aperitifs from 3 – 5. Daily, except Wednesdays. Reservations for dinner are recommended, but not required, call 209-728-9817.....
