Angels Camp, CA...Angels 5 Theatres Independent Film Series has returned for the fall! This week's feature is "Winter's Bone" 11th! Winner of the 2010 Sundance Film Festival's Grand Jury Prize and Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award, this tense, naturalistic thriller follows 17-year-old Ree Dolly as she confronts the local criminal underworld and the harsh Ozark wilderness in order to to track down her father, who has put up the family homestead for his bail. Featuring a star-making performance by Jennifer Lawrence, Winter's Bone is sure to be one of the most-critically acclaimed films of the year.. This week you can also take in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole in 3D, Devil, Alpha and Omega in 3D, The Town, Takers and more. Angels Camp, CA..Yesterday Jeff Rasmussen sent in some photos of the 383 Ideapad Notebooks being delivered to Bret Harte High School. We spoke with Bret Harte School District Superintendent Michael Chimente and Technology Director Lucinda Brower about how they will be used to make sure that Bret Harte Students will be ready for the digital age and workforce of today. The over $230k purchase was made possible from an anonymous donation to the school according to Superintendent Chimente. The latest bequest joins the over a million dollars given recently for other projects at the school including the beautiful new multipurpose room...

The Calaveras Cowboy Round-Up and Extreme Trail Competition is the newest fun, family event in Calaveras County. On Saturday, October 23rd, the Saddle Club and the Chamber of Commerce will present this fun event at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds. Entry onto the Fairgrounds for free where you can watch the Arena Competiions or enter the jackpot competition. The Horseshoe Contest starts at 3:00 pm, a small entry fee required for this jackpot competition. Horse & Barrel will be offering a Trail Ride for those that don't bring their own horses. There will be exhibits, hot dogs, stick horse races and lots of fun for the kids as well as Stage Coach and wagon rides.....

Vallecito, CA...On Oakdale couple sustained moderate and major injuries yesterday in an accident on Hwy 4 at Ponderrosa Road that initially came in as a head on collision. From the CHP release..A 17 year old Mi Wuk Village resicent was driving his 1995 Chevrolet pickup eastbound on Hwy 4 and was stopped at the intersection with Ponderosa Road preparing to turn left....
Angels Camp, CA....Rotary Brew & Brats is a fund raiser to support Rotary programs benefiting the Calaveras County food banks, scholarships for deserving High School students and dictionaries for elementary school kids.
