Gaines Calls for Audit of State Parks System

Posted by: John_Hamilton on 07/17/2012 01:32 PM
Sacramento, CA…Assemblywoman Beth Gaines, R-Rocklin, today announced that she has requested a state audit to examine possible mismanagement within the California Department of Parks and Recreation. While 70 state parks were slated for closure due to budget constraints, a Sacramento Bee article revealed that Parks Department management staff took advantage of a costly vacation buyout. In addition, there is a discrepancy regarding staffing. Budget records show staffing within the department has grown by almost 1,000 workers over the past decade, yet the department has not provided accounting for the $24 million in savings from an estimated 500 staff vacancies....

Posted by: John_Hamilton on 07/10/2012 09:16 AM
Arnold, CA...The fishing on the highway 4 corridor has been excellent. The campgrounds at Lake Alpine, Big Meadow, Sourgrass, Union Res, Spicer Res. and Mosquito Lakes are now open. You must obtain a fire permit for your campsite if you are not using an improved campsite. Make sure you purchase your license before heading up here as we are the only store to sell licenses from Arnold up as we do experience problems with our machine occasionally.....

High Country Flying High Last Weekend ~ By John Hamilton

Posted by: John_Hamilton on 07/09/2012 03:24 PM
Bear Valley, CA...The High Country was hopping this last weekend and that is a good thing for our local economy. From Spicer Reservoir to Cadillac Curve, Bear Valley, Lake Alpine, Mosquito Lake and Hermit Valley were all heavily visited and the cash registers were making happy sounds along the way. Even with todays gas prices it would probably be cheaper for you to hop in the car and head on up to God's Country and use Mother Nature's air conditioner rather than pay the electric bill at home. If it is triple digits down the hill it will probably be at least 20 - 25 degrees cooler at the top of the Sierras. Rent a Kayak or Bike at Bear Valley Adventure Company. Order a Giant Jeff Brown burger at Bear Valley General store. Then head out and burn off those calories. Then settle down to a nice dinner overlooking Lake Alpine at Lake Alpine Resort. Are you still sitting there? Get Going... :)
