Columbia College Presents 41st commencement on April 30th |

Columbia College will hold its 41st Commencement on Friday, April 30 at 6:30 p.m. in the Oak Pavilion. A reception for the graduates, their families, friends and guests will be held immediately after the ceremony in Carkeet Park next to the pavilion. Among the graduating class, 124 associate in arts degrees will be conferred, 54 associate in science degrees, 17 associate in science (occupational education) degrees, and 66 certificates of achievement. Twelve will graduate with distinction (cumulative grade point averages of 3.75 or better) and 21 with honors (between 3.5 and 3.74 grade point averages)....

Arnold, CA...It's Science Project time for students throughout the County. When we stopped by Hazel Fischer Elementary last week not only did we take in a pretty impressive "Chicken Dance" routine by the 2nd graders, we also were greeted by a Gym full of some very impressive science projects. The cream of this crop will be heading to the Calaveras County Finals to see who will be the best and brightest in the county this year. Angels Camp, CA...The Angels Camp City Council Meeting came to you tonight from the Bret Harte Campus. Topping off the meeting were the Mark Twain School District children reading their Kindness Hero Essays. It was a poignant and touching Kindness Essay program this evening. It really displayed the depth and breath of human caring and devotion. Some of these young little students displayed wisdom beyond their years. The replay of tonight's webcast is enclosed....

Shepha Schneirsohn Vainstein, psychotherapist and co-founder of Salaam Shalom Educational Foundation, will lecture on “Healing Children While Building Bridges with Jewish and Arab Children in Israel” on Friday, February 26 at 7 pm in the Sonora Opera Hall, 250 S. Washington Street. The talk is being sponsored by the Sierra Waldorf School in Jamestown and the Tuolumne County Citizens for Peace. Bear Valley, CA...The Annual Jazztrax Snowshoe Stomp had them pounding the snow as a fundraiser for the Vallecito Music Program. This year they lucked out with good weather as well. Parents, students and interested community members can get the most entertaining history lesson they’ve likely ever had on Saturday, February 6, 2010, at Bret Harte High School in Angels Camp, when 55 students from three high schools compete in the 28th Annual Regional Decathlon Competition. Participating teams hail from Bret Harte High School in Angels Camp, Mountain Oaks School in San Andreas and Summerville High School in Tuolumne. The French Revolution is the topic for this year’s Super Quiz Competition, in which decathletes will wow the audience with their history prowess beginning at 3:15pm in the lower gym.
